View Full Version : settling a stomach?

So I overdid it on the w/end, pretty dramatically. I have CFS and IBS and really overdoing it makes them both go mad :(
Now i'm dizzy, headachey and throwing up half the night, and i feel like i'm panicking but i'm pretty sure i'm not (although my mind is inserting worrying situations to go with the feeling, but I don't think thats the cause, if that makes sense?)
I was hoping that someone could let me know what types of tea would be useful for me to be having to try to settle my stomach so I can get some food down. I can afford to lose a bit of weight (I keep a bit around for emergencies like this), but any more than 5kg and I'll be starting to look gaunt, so I can't have too many days without good meals.
Appreciate the help :)

Peppermint or Ginger is all I can suggest. A bit of honey would be a good thing too. I hope you feel better soon!

Ginger tea or a blend of chamomile and peppermint.
If you go with the ginger, do so sparingly. Too much can make things worse than they were to begin with.

I'd go with the peppermint and chamomile, too. And also a bit of 7-Up will help settle your tummy, as will soda crackers.

If you can't keep down tea, you can use Peppermint and/or Ginger essential oils to help. You can either mix a drop or two into a teaspon of base oil or inscented lotion and massage that gently in a clockwise direction on the abdomen.
Or you can sniff the oil directly from the bottle, or put a drop on a tissue or use them in a burner.
Feel better.

BAY LEAF!!! 4 whole leaf, boil in 2 cups of water. Don't add sugar or honey,
drink plain, hot. This settles the tummy every time!! gets rid of gas also!
Passed down from Grandma:) Feel better.
be sure to remove all leaf before drinking!

My recipe for ginger and lemon tea, always works for me.
1 knob of ginger, about the quantity you'd put in your curry, peeled and grated.
2 tsp lemon juice
2 tsp caster sugar
Put the ginger in a tea strainer in the top of a mug. Add the lemon juice and sugar. Pour boiling water in until the level of the water is above the grated ginger and steep until it's ready. Discard the ginger pulp (you can eat it if you like, it'll be soft by then) and drink the drink.

Ginger root tea,Peppermint tea,or Raspberry leaf tea. Those would be your best bet.

I use slippery elm powder. If you have it, dissolve a teaspoon in a glass of fruit juice and drink it down. Settles my stomach every time.

I'm very late but I found that what helps for me when my tummy's upset is to make extra-strong tea (the type doesn't really matter). 2 teabags instead of one, that kinda thing. Works like a charm!

And when you start feeling well enough to start eating things again stick to dry and bland foods for a day. Toast, crackers, things like that and that will help speed your recovery.

besides tums, chamomille tea (you can just use the herb with a tea ball or something like that) can help.
Ginger is said to be good for stomaches as well.
