Has anyone had any trouble with "runaway thought" (for lack of a better term)?
My job requires me to be outdoors much of the time (the worse the weather, the more I'm outdoors). Management has decided to save money by not fixing outdoor lighting, not plowing snow, (and not heating my building). Anyone who's suffered through a Midwestern winter knows the misery I snivel about
About this time last year, I was thinking that if I fell and at least sprained my ankle, I'd be able to stay inside for a week or two. Of course, this required me to get hurt at work so I'd be on workers' compensation rather than use up my contract-ensured sick time and insurance. I even (VERY briefly) considered writing a "sprained ankle" ritual. Needless to say, I gave up that STUPID line of thinking in short order.
Too late! The Deities heard and decided to teach me a lesson.
I fell..on the way to work...and broke my ankle so thoroughly it had to be surgically reset. I have enough metal "support" in my ankle to set off store security alarms, I was off of work for three months and used up all of my accumulated sick time and vacation,
and had a battle of epic proportions with my HMO to get the medical bills paid.
And the Deities weren't done with me. Recently, I was wondering how an old beau was doing (absence and time smooths rough memories) and the Deities sent him to my doorstep. Now he's no longer known as "The Jerk", but as "the ex from hell".
Has anyone else had trouble with thoughts that take on a life of their own? Are there any rituals to discipline runaway thought? Do I just keep praying to the Goddess to protect me from my own idiocy? Advice and experiences welcome.
Thanks for listening...uh, reading. (This year I'm using my vacation in February, just to be safe).
