what's the difference between the theology in voodoo, pow-wow and folk magick? And are all these practices considered a kind of religion or a way of life? And .. are they under the subject of paganism???

folk magick is nothing like voodoo, it is basically a more developed form of kitchen witch spells, a pow-wow is a generic term used to describe alot of things... Generally however it neither the pow-wow nor the folk magick involve the holy possesion of the individuals involved. Theologically I have no idea however the voodoo is generally considered a form of rebellion while the pow-wow is considered a form of uniting individuals, folk magick is just that... voodoo can be a way of life as can anything but as it doesnt require that you drop your former religious assosiation it isnt considered to be one, folk magick definantly isnt one, and the pow-wow is a state of mind and a social event so no not for the individual. Yes as voodoo doesnt require the loss of ones own religious beliefs it can be found in paganism but is likely to stay on the outskirts because of its rebellion factor and the difficulty in getting trained; folk magick can be as well as a pow-wow, but they are not dependant on eachother.

I don't know much about VooDoo, so I probably shouldn't say too much. It's always given a negative image though; you never really hear about healing VooDoo things. Am I totally off on this?

(anyone? anyone?)

Actually voodoo (voudou voudu voudo ect..) is very missunderstood, it is a community thing, it is almost nothing like what is portraied in the movies and in pop culture (ie the little voodoo kits you can get for ten bucks in any good ol' place). It is often confused with santaria and other african base spiritualities. The voodoo curses are silly little things that some one saw preformed by a few dishonorable practitioners. Much feared voodoo doll is used to heal and as a charm. Voodoo is a spirituality like any other, the only difference is the amount of bad publicity. Voodoo is nothing to be feared (well as much as any tradition rooted in magick is) it is just a different kind of religion, much feared because of myth and legend.

I have healed using the voodoo doll occasionally. I then gave the doll to the patient so that they could deal with it.
