Im sorry to hear of your troubles. Next time someone comes up with you with accusations such as those, you should tell them that that level of hex is to simple. Tell them that if you were going to hex them, they would not be able to walk back in there. Wizards first rule, people will believe anything, ethier because they want to beleive it is true, or they are afraid it is true. Tell them something they would be afraid of you to do, that will get them to leave it alone.

That's one reason I don't tell many people what I study or do. People look for meaning and purpose behind everything and it saves them time and energy to just blame bad things on the handiest person nearby. I'm a bit guilty of this because I've had a small suspicion that my ex threw something nasty my way. I just try to remind myself he wouldn't be that stupid...
As for what to do, I'd either ttell him "it doesn't work that way" without elaborating too much. Or, if you want him to leave you alone, firedrake has a good suggestion.

I find that the more people who know I do magic, the more they'll use my beliefs as excuses to put the blame of things on me. Also makes them look like raving lunatics. O_o;

I've never had that problem really, although in year....7 I think it was when I was 13 I pulled out some hair off this idiot that wouldnt leave me alones head and told him Id use it to hex him and then he got the chicken pox or flu or somethin like that a few days later, needless to say I HADNT DONE A THING but they left me alone after that..
Edit: *DISCLAIMER* Im not condoning what I did, nor do I do or would I do it now, like I said I was 13 or maybe 12 at the time, just sharing an experience

When you see someone who is a genuine "jinx" to people, they may be what's called a jettatura, which is someone who unknowingly and unwillingly throws the evil eye. Those people suffer the negative effects themselves, since people will go to great legnths to avoid them. One of the things you can do to stop or at least lessen the effect is for the jettatura to wear an "eye" charm on a necklace or bracelet,or blue beads. So..if people continue to accuse you of "hexing" them, try one of those suggestions. They're probably just being jerks, but if there is some validity to their claims it could help.

Tell him to leave you the hell alone, or you'll give him a REASON to cry.

You're going to find that you'll be an easy scapegoat for stuff like this. Choose wisely who you share your magical gifts with, Fatimah. Accusations like this guy's happen all the time, otherwise!
I like what someone said above about explaining that you didn't do this just by virtue of how you helped him out originally, and then just leaving it at that.
Good luck!

It's actually quite surprising, the traditional Witch mentality that still exists in so far as to lay blame to Witches for things. Now, I have done some fairly seedy things, but I am constantly amazed by individuals inquiring or proclaiming that I have interfered in their life, particularly in a baneful way.
Only response I can ever give them is "Do you truly think yourself so important in my eyes that I would take time out of my life to focus on yours? Generally, I have better things to do, sorry."
I've been accused of everything from jinxing a board game in my favor, to men accusing me I made them fall in love/lust with me, to bringing torrential rains, to... well, the list goes on and on.
And I've only done 1/3 of the things I've been accused of. I rarely tell people what I do, though not because of this. I just don't see why they would care.

Little Billy was right.
Although people tend to blame others for everything, whether magic or not. When someone bumps into you and you get angry, you may blame that person for upsetting you, even though it was your own mind that flared up.
See how this works. So it is not a stretch to see how someone else could think you jinxed them. Blaming is an ancient human passtime.
