I watched a thing on the discovery channel a few weeks ago, about Egypt and it's royalty/gods/goddesses, and one who particularly struck my interest was a queen who declared herself pharoah. She did many wonderful things for the kingdom and was really loved by everyone. I was wondering if anyone knows her name, or where i could find out what it is?? I'd really like to find out!

Thanks,
Shay

Yes, her name is Hatshepsut. What an intersting historical figure! She, a woman, ruled for over twenty years. She stayed in power so long because, she kept Egypt at peace, improved trade and beautified the land by building temples and obelisks. If you noticed the art work done of Hateshepsut, she is often shown wearing a ceremonial beard. quite a surprise to see a woman wearing the ceremonial beard, but then again, Hatshepsut was so unique for her time. AFter all, you don't see too many women becoming so powerful, and she only gained this power since her husband was weak and Thutmose III was too young to rule at the time. Egypt did have sadness when she stopped reigning. Thutomose III came into power and focused his attention on expanding the empire, so war broke out again. Since you saw a documentary on Egypt, you probably learned this information. Hopefully, it helped a little.
