Last night, hubby and I were watching TV, and I mentioned to him that our landlord (who lives downstairs) must be cooking something because I could smell the hot grease. Well, a few minutes later, our smoke detector went off, and we ran down to see what was going on (amid all the smoke), and he had gone off and left something cooking on the stove while he went across the street. So....we were all running around like this :awilly:

We got the fire out and the damage is contained mostly to the kitchen area with some smoke damage to the ceilings and such. Everybody is okay except for some minor smoke inhilation...well, my birdies are at a neighbor's, so I hope they're okay...will find out later.

That's scary. I've got this problem with fires, always thought I'd lose my life in one, though I've never really experienced one. I'd be all panic and stress and run around screaming at the top of my lungs holding my guitar in my arms.

Good to hear no one was severely hurt. Hope everything's just fine with your birds. :hugz:

Im glad that yall are ok hun. And that the damage was minor. My biggest fear is a house fire.

This is the closest I have ever been to having a fire...and it's plenty close for me. At least everyone is okay, and the damage is minor. We still have a place to live, and the animals are okay, and it's just messy cleanup. Counting my blessings.

Wow!!! After a scare like that, I'd be scared to go to sleep at night before making sure everything was alright.

I'm really glad you're alright and that nobody got hurt. And I hope you're birdies are alright too. :D

neighbor called and the birdies are okay

Thank you all for your kind responses...now if someone can just keep me from doing this _wedgie_ to the landlord, we'll be good.

Last week a house went up in flames across the lake from my house... totally demolished. I didn't freak out, but I was very sad for the owners, who aren't exactly rich in the first place, and have four kids.
I occasionally forget when i have water boiling for tea, or something... but I always check everything before I leave the house. And its not that easy, with three stories... sheesh...

That is really scary!!! Glad to hear that you, your hubby and birds are okay!!!! An acquainance of mine had a fire in her apt...she had a meth freak living above her...and I guess he freaked out and started a fire in his apt. The ceiling in her apt. started falling down. She did get out...safely and with all her cats.

Blessings,
Briana
