:) Hiya everyone.

I'm curious with how folk magically deal with the common cold and those terrible headaches that accompany them. Aside from the Nyquil, plenty of rest and cleansing meditations, I'm not sure what else could be done.

:awilly: Thanks! Lia.

I complain alot, until I lose my voice that is! My doctor always said to drink lots and lots of water to help flush out the system and avoid dehydration. That was his advice for just about everything, and often it does actually help!

Aw, Ches! That sucks! Sorry to hear you're sick, too.

I burned a little insence that seemed to help clear my room of that "sick smell" you get with colds.

Do not take anythign that will keep your nose from running, or from coughing..
I know that it sucks, but, when you cough and your nose runs, that gunk is actually toxins and such, and if you do not let your body get rid fo them it will take alot longer to get better..

My advice:

Go get rest, sleep, eat plenty, and take vit. C

Sleep a lot, though I know it's hard when you're congested and can't breathe. Steam baths help - holding your face over a steaming bowl of water with some eucalyptus oil in it. Also great for the pores! Vicks vaporub on the chest while sleeping helps. Taking hot baths helps relieve any aches associated with fever, as well as helping to draw out toxins through the skin. Throw some handfuls of sea salt in there, if you have it. REAL chicken soup, if you're not veggie. Not the canned stuff. You could make a charm sachet for healing with lavender, feverfew, vervain and rosemary in it (to name just a few herbs off the top of my head). Meditating with the Beorc rune could help, as well as making supplications to any healing deities you work with. Hope you feel better!

Another good way to clear out your head is to eat something spicy. For anway it never fails to clean out my sinus's and though it might not last for all that long, you can atleast have some releif.

I usually turn the shower on full blast, throw some eucalytus bath salts under the spray and let my room fill up with the scented steam. It helps with the breathing. Sleep is great, but make sure you elevate your head a bit more than normal. Vitamin C, chicken soup, lots of liquids and rest - this great advice people have already given you. Good luck. I hope you feel better soon.

The doctor recommended saline nasal spray. We live in a dry climate, and one child was having lots of nosebleeds.

But the saline spray( which is super cheap, also) helps break up sinus congestion naturally, plus if used when not ill, it can help keep you from getting sick because tissues aren't dry and cracked, letting in more germs.

I'm sick with a dreaded cold at the moment as well. I'm not trying to take too much medication, I'd rather let it run its course naturally and get rid of all the toxins my body needs to get rid of. I'm suffering, but I'm sleeping well, thankfully, so that's good. I can live with the rest! :)

General advice - avoid extremes of temperature as it will make your sinuses and catarrh worse. Drink plenty of orange juice and try and get plenty of sleep. Put a few drops of eucalyptus oil in your bath if you're thick with it - it will help you breathe. :D

Sleep. Tea. Water. Nothing that clogs up the sinuses (let the body get rid of it). Lots and lots of vitamin C. Also, a trick I learned from some magazine that works amazingly. This drains your sinuses within a few seconsd.. sometimes taking longer but it ALWAYS has worked for me. Switch on and off pushing two parts of your body (it makes a bone in the head rock.. and thus drains the sinuses, clearing up the nose tremendously). Simultaneously alternate between pushing the tongue to the roof of your mouth and pushing firmly, but lighty on your third eye area between the eyebrows. This has worked 100% for me even with a completely stuffed nose. At least one nostril will clear up, if not both. Best of luck!

Drink lots and lots of herbal tea, in addition to taking OTC stuff.

Peppermint and "Tension Tamer" (by Celestial Seasonings) work best for me.

I know that some folks imagine white, healing light while meditating, and say that helps ease their head and body aches associated with the cold and flu.

Unfortunately though, its just one of those things that has to run its course.

Keeping yourself from being too physically and emotionally drained is a good idea though, as you already know. :)
