My husband had a question today and I wasn't sure of the answer - he noticed my USB key was hanging next to my medicine bag and he asked if I put a symbol (like a rune) on the USB key, would it keep its mystical power?

I don't know - If I made a special folder on the thumb drive and put jpegs on it of runes or tarot cards or other symbols would their energy still be there?

I think they might, especially if I used intent to create the folder and the images.

What do you think?

I used intent

There you go, you answered your own question.

I have a Bluetooth thumb drive. Has anyone else noticed that their icon looks suspiciously like a runestave?

I think that's a fabulous idea, especially if you recharge them regularly. You could use protection symbols to keep the key safe and secure, or airy symbols so creativity always encourages your work when you use the key to store data, etc.

Thanks for the feedback.

I use the thumb drive several times a day, and wear it around my neck for easy access, so I was thinking of using it as an extension of my medicine bag. But putting data protection and creativity runes on it is a great idea! I would never have thought of it.

And since I am a tech it makes perfect sense for me to do this!

:Wanders off to find images to assist finding solutions to problems:

lol! That's very interesting. I'm going to have to try that. All the wannabees can buy USB pen drives with spiritual symbols instead of fancy jewellery!!!

But seriously though... if jewellery works -- with intent --, would not a digital representation?

You know it almost makes me want to purchase a small USB key just to try putting magical symbols and spells on it. I often carry gemstones but a USB key sounds like a novel way to carry around bits of more complicated magic. It might be less noticeable then a spell bag too!

Bluetooths icon is runes. The technology itself is named after a viking king that had the moniker of "Bluetooth".

c'mon, I should get serious geek points for knowing that...

For anyone whose interested its a stylized Berkana rune, I think the too points to the left are just there to look like teeth.

On a side note Bluetooth is a pain in butt...

The wiki entry goes on to explain that it's a 'B' and an 'H' (after the king),
but there's also a Gebo (which I see as 'exchange' --very pertinent) and, as in all bind-runes, an Isa (which I see as acting to 'fix' the bind-rune)

Nice, Guess I should have read the whole thing. I never considered that it'd be a bind rune.

I found a website somewhere once that talked about Buddhist prayer wheels, and it said that ones turned by electricity were still considered effective... and went on to talk about saving copies of various tsutras to one's hard drive ('cause it spins) to turn it into a prayer wheel. So I have no doubt that symbols stored on a USB drive would work just as well.

Thanks for the info Corsen.

I like the idea of using a hard drive as a prayer wheel. It speaks to the geek in me.

:antennae:

I'm going to try it next new moon.

YMMV, but ...

You know that saying, A Sufficiently Advanced Technology is Indisinguishable from Magick?

Well, some find that Sufficiently Advanced Magic is Incompatible with Technology ... stops watches, fries pagers, cellphones, computers, etc.

I would approach any mix of the two with caution unless one is a Technoshaman.
