Hello everyone.

I don't know if this has been discussed before but... online horoscopes... what do you think about them.

I personally think that the majority of them are totally false. I do not think that they have been calculated and generally offer advice that would be accurate or usefull for any time (if it is one of the better "fakes").

I'm just curious to know what other people think about this and also do you know how to do your own? Obviously not each day, week, or even month but maybe the general year's or even bigger spans of time... Just wondering about that.

-Ayumi :)

I read the horoscopes on yahoo astrology almost every day. Most of the time its accurate, for me anyways. It's all in fun though. I don't take it too seriously.

The Professional Astrologers of the world (of which I am one) have been saying, until the cows come home, that online astrology forecasts and the daily stuff in the newspapers is Sun Sign Astrology which is very imprecise. Many of my colleagues say that it gives Astrology a bad name. Some might say: "it's better than nothing but it's also almost nothing".

To do the job right, you have to cast a Chart based on detailed information. You must provide your day / month / year and location of Birth and the time of birth, as shown on a reliable document such as one's birth certificate.

Other information may also be necessary. For example, if you are asking about a lawsuit, an Astrologer will want to know exactly when you filed the lawsuit or were notified about it and when is it scheduled to go to Court and in what city.

Anyone who would write off Astrology because of the popularity of sun sign daily predictions is like someone who says they know mexican food when the only mexican food they ever had was at Taco Bell. _wiz_

It does depend what you mean by "online astrology", Ayumi. I agree with Derestanne that Sun-sign astrology is at best very limiting, but of course there are sites out there (like astro.com) that will give you personalised forecasts based on your birth data - so it's not just Sun-sign astrology.

However, even these are computer-generated, and although computers can churn out text-book interpretations for each transit, they can't weave the story and put it all together like a human astrologer. They do give you *something*, however.

Sorry if it sounded like I was writing astology off. I really wasn't. I just read an article about it and wanted some opinion on the subject. *thank you very much by the way for them all*

There are certainly some good sites out there. The bad ones I mean are the ones where they just pick random things to tell you without any sort of research at all. All the big name ones are usually going to be better... they provide basic information that is pretty accurate. As for telling you which signs you are... sun, moon, rising... etc. I think that it is certainly best to have a real person interpret your chart however rather than a computer. I agree that it is better when you talk to a person who knows what they are doing and has experience in interpreting charts.

*breathes* Long paragraph. Anyways, thank you all for your imput. It's very refreshing to hear.

sorry to quote a whole not-short post.. but i was looking for the point which i stopped thinking "my thoughts exactly!" -- right on point.

all i can say, to put it into perspective.. even people who have been practicing astrology for a long time are still extracting information from thier own 'scope.

as we move into the aquarian age, we're going to see alot less "readers" and alot more teachers of the science. the knowledge is all within us, it's as integral to our existance as the diety who created us is.

it's not better than nothing. at all. this pure sillyness is just one reason the above paragraph is still only a dream, yet to be fufilled.

Ayumi,
Even if you were attempting to write it off, us astrologers are very much used to skeptics. we dont mind! to us, a skeptic is the first sign of a soul starting the journey into thier own cosmic origins. even i refused to believe it at first... I was horribly skeptic of astrology years ago. I honestly had to apply it for myself to take any sort of belief in it.

And yes, there is a huge lack of calculation.

If you want, I can post your full natal chart and a list of your aspects. armed with precise calculations of all your planets, you can google search your own aspects and read stuff that's actually about your personal energy. It's how I started.
