View Full Version : Herbs and/or crystals for safe driving?

Well, it looks like North Jersey is gonna get blasted by a snowstorm tonight. (bleck!!!)
My hubby has to drive from up here in the mountains to near NYC and has to be on some notoriously bad roads. Are there any herbs or crystals you can recommend I put in a bag for him to carry with him? One time last year it took him 6.5 hours to get home. He is diabetic and had no sugar with him and the roads were all closed. Man that was a crazy night.:bug: :woah: I would feel better if he had something to help him stay safe (and sane!)

He doesn't carry those little restaurant-type sugar packets eith him?
Anyway, use a Raido Rune (looks like the letter 'R', symbolizes travel) & an Algiz Rune (looks like a peace sign, right side up; symbolizes protection) . Drawing them on a piece of paper will be fine.

This is what I use in my car protection herb bag.
On the bag itself, I've embroidered a raidho and algiz rune for protectin of my vehicle. Heh! Great minds like ours think alike, Rick. :D
For the herb mix, I put in:
Sage - protection & long life
Feverfew - to ward off accidents in travel
Sandalwood - for protection & wards against negativity, & offering to the Goddess.
Fennel - extra protection
Comfrey - for safe travel
Juniper - protection against thefts.
Rosemary - for mental alertness.
You don't need a lot of herbs in your bag. About a pinch each will do. About 1/4 - 1/2 tsp each.
I also put inside a little moonstone to honour the Goddess Luna, who is also the protectress of chariots so therefore, cars.
Hang this over the rear view mirror of the car.

From Scott Cunningham's Enyc. of Magikal Herbs: A cross of Yucca fibers hung from the rearview mirror protects your vehicle from accidents (that and safe driving practices!)

I can't remember where I read this from...but placing a stone arrowhead in your car is supposed to ward of accidents. I have an obsidian one in my car and it seems to have worked well so far...and I've had quite a few close calls. Note- I don't think it matters what kind of stone that it is made out of...

I took a trip out of state (and this is a big state) a couple of months ago, and was going to be driving through a vicious rainstorm that was spawning tornadoes all throughout its path.
I made a charm before I left--a cord with 2 symbols of each element tied into it, and asked that the elements guide us and keep us safe. I had had a very bad feeling about this 8-hour drive.
About 6 hours into it the rain got so bad that we couldn't see, could barely keep the car on the road, and kept hearing strange sounds in the wind. The sky would darken to black, then light again...we were pretty sure they were tornadoes. We came through it just fine, but at that point where it was so bad, that little charm was rattling and shaking and one of the stones that I had placed in a pouch tied to the cord came OUT of the pouch that I had sewn closed (and the road was very smooth...this wasn't because the car was rattling around or anything).
When I get a car, I think I'll do something similar.

Can you believe he doesn't? Or the bottles and bottles of glucose tabs I buy from the pharmacy?
Thanks for the suggestions- I think I will give him the runes for now, since I have paper and pencil and not yucca or arrowheads. But I am getting an idea of knotting some thread for the elements and attaching the arrowhead at the end for him. It would look cool, dont you think? And no one would have to know it was a charm.
And s1ren~ creepy story! I am glad that you made it through safely.

TORNADOES, huh? So... you were driving outta Texas & into OKLAHOMA, right? The only place an F-6 has actually been recorded (OKC, May 3rd, 1999)...
Just a little friendly border humor :T 8O
Great charm.

My dad carries lifesavers candies for that (the irony of their name and their use doesn't escape me either).
If you can, get ahold of Everyday Magic by Dorothy Morrison and look under Traffic and Travel.

I hear ya on the "Lifesavers."
I have heard good things about that book...is it as good as I have heard? If it is, I think I may have to add that onto "The List." Which is about a mile long. :p

Yup. I love it.
One of 3 I'd take to a desert island.

Ok, it is added to my list. ;)
Now I have to ask what the other two books are, but I'll move that question to the Book Forum...
