I've thought about signing up for the classes on the kemetic orthodox site since i've heard good things about it and i'm interested in the Kemetic religion but on the application page (http://www.kemet.org/apply.html), it says

Persons under 18, or persons under OR over 18 living with their parent(s) or guardian(s), or who are financially dependent on another person, must supply written consent from that parent/guardian/provider

I am over 18 (i'm 19) but i still live with my parents, and they don't know i'm interested in the Kemetic religion (all they think is that i like Egypt mythology and history (as well as Greek and Sumerian)). Does this mean that i can't sign up and if it does, are there any other sites that offer some good classes on it.

Thanks

Personally, I don't take that "rule" too seriously. Go ahead and apply. :) I was 18 and financially dependant on my parents (still am) yet I didn't send in a written permission, or mentioned them in my application, I think.

Thanks, i will :). I've got another question about the classes, what exactly do you have to do?, do they just teach you about the Kemetic religion or do you have to buy lots of resources (like books) to participate, since i'd like to do it, but if it involves a lot of things to buy, i probably can't yet, as i hardly have any money (and what i do have usually goes on university books, & other things).

Note that it doesn't define the usage of the word "dependant" so I would say its up to you to decide if you feel dependant on your parents, in this case, or not. As to the nature of the course...

Well, there aren't technically any required supplies, aside from an internet connection -- how else to take a long-distance class? There are very nice recommended reading lists provided with each lesson, but again, they aren't strictly required. (My wife and I are slowly making our way down the list. ;) And its been a few years for me.)

You will also end up gathering supplies to put together a simple shrine and be able to attend the Senut Rite at that shrine, but its not much. (In fact, chances are that you already have a few suitable implements laying about.)

Other than that, its just a series of emailed lessons, weekly discussion chats, and a mailing list for discussions outside of the chats. (And some messaging with the liasions as well, if one wants.)

I second Erincelt on the recommended reading. :) It's recommended, not required. I haven't read a single one of them (living in Sweden makes it even more difficult to find those books) and I'm doing just fine. You'll be fine, too. :)

As the others have said, you are not required to read the recommended reading list. I haven't made it through the books I already do have! :) If you want to try reading the books on the list, check your local library to see if they have any copies. I was able to borrow a few that way.

I was worried about that too since its no big deal I’ll just sign up for the nest classes. :)

I got a reply from them and they said that they'd be glad to accept me, all i had to do was confirm by e-mailing them, which i did. Although i haven't heard anything back from them, does anyone know exactly when i starts?

Not sure, but they'll email you a week or two before it starts.

I *think* that we just had a class finish... so one is either going to start soon, or just started.

Yeah... I feel useless... lol

my fiance and my best friend are in the current class. I think it's about to start. you should have got an email welcoming you to the Zep Tepi mailing list

if you haven't, then maybe you should email Kai Imakhu Antybast (Rev Schaefer)

Yeah, i just got an e-mail for the Zep Tepi mailing list yesterday, so i guess it means that it'll be starting soon (although, when, i have no idea).

I think that requirement was made, so that people can't have family issues build up if other members suddenly found out about it. If you know that if your family members found out, and they would get pissed off at you or something, then maybe you should get their permission first... But as you are over 18, if you think your parents would understand it is just an interest you have, then I don't think it really matters..

As for the class, you don't require the books (they are recommended), but they are an interesting read. I found some of them at my local library. (that was before my other half bought them all for me)..

Glad to see you have signed up - hope to get to know you better (I am IaitYinepu over there - or Iait)

Does anyone know if something has happened to the class, i got accepted months ago, but haven't had anything sent to me like lessons, etc. In another thread, someone mentioned to e-mail the person that e-mailed me and i did that and said i hadn't got anything, but i haven't heard back from them, am i out of the class or do i need to reapply again (or is there someone else i should e-mail?).

Thanks for any help you can provide :).

Hotep!

I guess I'm that someone else.

Have you been on the HoN boards at all? If so, there was a notice posted just today that acceptance letters had come out.

So you should have received an email from Kai-Imakhu Antybast (Rev. Schaefer), and if you haven't maybe posting a question on the boards would help.

I actually had to do that back when I was in the class - I got my acceptance letter, but then got electronically dropped from the list, so I asked about it on the boards and everything got fixed.

Senebty,
Kheret

I got an e-mail saying i had been dropped from the class, and i've tried registering for the forum, but it seems not to be registering me.

Does anyone know what happened?.

Your best bet is to try and contact one of the people from this list
http://www.kemet.org/clergy.html
Rev. Craig Schaefer or Rev. Donna Schaefer would probably be able to help you quickest for this sort of situation, I think. Tell them about your problems, and they should be able to figure out what is going wrong and help you get access to the boards and to the next class.

can't say. it took me a couple of tries to register... then you have to wait for a confirmation by email.

So... I CAN'T WAIT for my first lesson! i hope they send them out soon!

I recall it being mentioned on the boards somewhere that they had some issues for a little while with their email, so you may have been a victim of their technical difficulties. Do email the clergy and let them know -- they are quite accomidating in cases like that. :)

I'm not sure what's wrong, 'cause i e-mailed the guy, he e-mailed me back and said he was putting me back on the list, and said that there was another class starting in July, and i think he told me that i'd be getting the lessons soon, but i haven't heard about anything.

When does the next class start?, or am i just 'worrying' over nothing, i'd kind of like to do the class, so it's a bit annoying.

Has this happened to anyone else before?.

BTW, i'll be going on holiday tomorrow and won't be back till the 18th July so just in case, i miss any replies till then, thanks for any help.

Have patience. :) They can be slow about getting things done. I only just saw the RPD forms in my inbox this past week, so your class will be gearing up to start any day now.
