Ok, so I've just done this reading, asking why I have this long term illness, and I don't want what I think of myself to cloud my judgement as to what its actually saying. So I wondered if you could tell me what you think. I'm using the Goddess Tarot pack, and on a simple 4 card spread using just the Major Arcana, I drew:

I - reversed
VIII
XII
IV

Thanks for ure time =)

Did you assign meanings to the positions you layed them in?

*pulls out her goddess tarot and book*

Ok so that's

I - reversed - Magic - Isis - blocked power, manipulation, secrecy
VIII - Justice - Athena - wisdom, detachment, fairness
XII - Transformation - Ukemochi - change, endings, beginnings
IV - Power - Freya - leadership, wisdom, authority, power

Okie dokie. As Dagda said, what meanings you had in the layout are important. I'm just gonna share some random thoughts tho, k?

Alright, at first glance, this reading seems positive but I see that you're still very unhappy and feel "stuck". You thought you'd be well awhile ago and yet you're still here, stuck sick. Very frustrating isn't it?

At first glance Ukemochi looks scary doesn't she! After all she is the "death" card. She really points to change, endings, and new beginnings. I don't think this means you're going to die or anything. Right now you feel blocked, but Athena and Freya bring you wisdom and power.

I don't know how much research you've done in this. Maybe you should take a look to find medical info and other info too - maybe think about whether there's some sort of diet that could help you, or maybe you'll think about doing a ritual for healing yourself regularly. I really feel you have the power to help yourself here, and the wisdom. I also feel if you try to help yourself you will feel empowered and better. Try to be strong and take comfort in your friends. You will feel better!

I think Athena and Freya are telling you something too - maybe this illness is here to help you learn your strength; how wise and strong you really are. How you can take control and help yourself. And Ukemochi reminds us that change and endings can be a good thing - a new beginning of healthyness for you would be great!

Hope that made some sense.

Thanks Myst!

I don't have that deck, so it would make interpretation on my part very difficult to say the least! ;)

That sounds right, on many accounts! The meanings I assigned to the cards were -

1. The basis of the situation being considered, or the past
2. The state of things at the moment, or the present
3. What could happen if things carry on this way
4. The overall message/lesson of the reading

Is there a specific book that you can suggest to me, one on Tarot cards??? I have one but its very old and falling apart. I'm stupid really, I bought these cards more for spells, meditations etc, but now from a few readings I've done, I've found that I can actually be quite good at it (depending on my energy levels), and some other circumstances that have come up around my Third Eye, and empathy, I've been trying to read the cards. Which as I said, is stupid, as I can understand what its saying on the surface, but I don't have the understanding to reach any deeper. I just keep on fustraiting myself.

"Seventy-Eight degrees of wisdom" by Rachel Polluck is a pretty good book for taking an indepth look into the meaning of the cards. :D

I also like the "Tarot Companion" by Tracy Porter for a quick reference. I would use this more as a reference book though. It has many correspondences, (colors, symbols, runes etc.) but not a very detailed look at the meanings of the cards themselves.

Thank you! I've added it to my (now) £80 book list! ;-)

If you don't have the Goddess Tarot workbook I'd recommend it. Has a few different spreads with spread workpages, in depth meanings and some research, and lots of space for you to record personal meanings you find in the cards.

I was going to get it, but I'm not sure that I can without the pack
