Ya cud try a phallus or Lingum for the God, Shaivates Often use this to represent Lord Shiva and his energy, how one of the stones with a hole in to represent Goddess,-represents the vulva creating life.............good luck with it !xx

Hmmm... for goddess things, I like things that are connected to the sea and earth. I.e. instead of a pentacle, I have a big white sand-dollar. I also like dried roses.

For god things, I look for things representative of fire and air... i.e. a spiffy blade of some sort, candles, feathers, etc.

Sorry that's so vague! I tend to see symbols of the earth as being more accessible than those of the gods.

Maybe just a statue of a man and a woman? That's pretty simple. Or maybe just pictures of the gods you relate to.

you can surf the web for pictures of gods and goddesses, especially paintings can be very good recource as they have less copyright issues attached.

you can put phaluses for the god (or form them from wax/clay yourself

god can be also represented by male animals - so seek for them online, and sometimes even stuffies will do. it is the intention that counts more than the thing you use.

some goddesses can be represented by flowers, but you could also find a nice branch in a park and use it for the god ....

It depends on the diety. I might do something with the maiden, mother, and crone. Like the tripple moon or triqueta.

There's many a thread on alters and who uses what :) Have a search an you might find something.

I'm useing at the moment, A puter statue for the Goddess. It's about 2 inches high and is holding a clear marble where her belly or lap would be. It doesn't really look that much like a person, it has a "head" but no face, and it apears to be sitting down (you can tell this because of the body to head size ratio).
And I've got a pair of baby pinecones (still joined together) to represent the God.

It really depends who or what your Gods are but some other ideas are:
Dragon and Phonex statues
Gold candle holder for the God
Silver candle holder for the Goddess
Mother and baby statue
Your chosen God or Goddess's animal.
Cauldron holding a red or orange candle.
Silver and gold glitter in a pretty dish.
A framed poem, or painting.
A miniture may-pole.

Or, instead of having something to represent them, why not leave an offering each day instead?

Hope this helps.

Buy some of that modeling clay that doesn't get hard. It is cheap and easy to find, sometimes they even have it at the grocery store. Then, fashion models of deities or symbols that fit the season and place them on your altar. Say a prayer, and sit down and model. Then, when it is time to move on, you can take the same clay and make a fresh model for the next season or whatever.

I find that modeling clay on the altar brings out some really interesting symbols, it allows me to access some inner understanding of the cosmos, and it invites others to participate in spirituality.

My altar is a place of evangelism. I try to have things on it that invite others to get involved. And they do! The way my culture is, sometimes people "stuff" their spirituality, and I want my altar to be a place that invites them to take it out, shake the wrinkles out and dance with it!

People have been incredibly creative, respectful, and grateful!
