It may depend on what's causing it. Do you often get headaches? What has helped in the past with your headaches?
A sinus infection will cause an awful headache that lasts until the infection clears up (usually following a course of antibiotics), and I've read that high blood pressure may also cause headache. Then there's tension headaches, and headaches from having a bad tooth, or jaw misalignment, or even your back being out of whack. Have you been drinking more caffeine than usual lately, it could be a caffeine-withdrawal headache.
I get really bad headaches, I think they're migraines but they're not the typical ones with the aura and the nauseau, although the last couple have made me feel queasy. Ususally eating a little something helps with that.
I usually take 2 excedrin and 2 ibuprofin when I get a bad headache, but I'm a BIG girl so I can easily take that much. I don't like to think of what it may be doing to my stomach lining though. I have tried Feverfew supplements in the past and they helped but I had trouble remembering to take them every day. I've also read that low levels of Magnesium may cause headaches so I've been trying to remember to take a Magnesium supplement.

I use accupressure for a headache that just won't go away. Here is a pretty helpful website. http://www.geocities.com/jrh_iii/acupressure/

Where is the pain located at?

I had a friend who did accupressure on my head and neck about 13 years ago. It hurt so bad at the time I thought I would either be sick or pass out, but I didn't get a bad headache for almost 3 years after that. I've tried accupressure on myself but it has never helped.
I could never convince my family doctor to try any migraine meds on me, even though migraines run in my family and I often got them along with my menses. Sheesh. A friend took pity on me and gave me a few of his migraine meds and after taking just one the headache was completely gone. It was amazing. I went to my doctor and demanded my own prescription. Unfortunately I no longer have health insurance and can't afford to spend that much on a prescription.
I went to a massage therapist back around Thanksgiving and had sacro-cranial massage done and I felt wonderful ... for about 30 minutes, then the headache came back. It was so bad that day that my daughter had driven me to the salon.
Where does it hurt? Some of the time it feels like I'm wearing a stocking cap that is made for a child and it's so tight and puts pressure on my whole head. Sometimes the pressure is just above my eyes. Sometimes it's just behind my ears. Today it's both above my eyes and behind my ears. But it's not a sinus headache because when I get those I can't stand to wear my glasses, they put too much pressure on the sinus cavities across the bridge of my nose. Most of the time bright lights hurt my eyes and loud noises make me cringe or cry out. I got tired of living in a dark room with no noise and no people. I can't do that now anyway because I provide day care for my grandchildren.

This is one topic I can completely empathize with. I am on day six of a horrid migraine or tension headache - the doctor cannot decide which. He is scared to give me migraine meds since I am on so many different prescriptions right now so I have to wait until he can get me into a neurologist. In the meantime - noise and lights kill me, and well I didnt know my nausea could possibly get worse than it had been. It can and did.
Hugggs I hope you find a good solution soon. Have you tried taking the excedrin migraine medicine that is over the counter? I have found that occasionally it does help. Not always and not if it reaches the worst levels but if it is just starting and I take it then several times it has stopped it from getting worse.

You've certainly got my sympathy. I'm lucky that my headaches rarely make me feel nauseus, but the last few days I keep teetering on the brink of that. Lights and noise just kill me. I went to drum circle on Wednesday evening even though I shouldn't have been driving with the car lights coming at me and reflecting in my mirrors, but I love drumming and it always makes me feel better.
Excedrin markets several different "types" of headache tablets, but they all have the same ingredients: acetaminophen, aspirin and caffeine. If I take two excedrin and two ibuprofen as soon as I can tell its a bad headache it makes me feel much better, something about that combination works better for me. For some people it's a combination of excedrin and tylenol that works best. And I buy the store brand of excedrin, it has exactly the same ingredients for about 1/3 less.
