Have you ever experienced any?I live with 4 strong Christians, as at uni, most of the time theyre fine, chat about football and the like, its all cool, but i know they pray for my soul, and its unnerving, last Samhain i missed lectures to organise the Pagan society evening, bumped into them in th street, they asked where id been, told them the truth and couldnt resist the humerous chirp that roles would be reversed and id pray for theirs, they didnt take it too well, was it out of me for doing that-should i have kept my big mouth shut?x:boing:

I actually consider it a nice gesture when people pray for me.

i experienced a great deal of discrimination with the hospital and social workers when my son was born. i'm not going into detail, because it was a horrible experience i want to put behind me, but the law was on my side and the harassment stopped as soon as legal action was threatened. ironically, the hateful behavior of "professionals" sworn to protect life has been the worst discrimination i've ever experienced. the average fundie that gets in my face has usually been respectful, at least, if not supportive, after my position has been explained and my respect (though not agreement) for theirs has been established. i still find myself very uncomfortable around fundamentalists, however, even when they're trying to be outwardly respectful. maybe that's my own prejudice

I've had someone not let me in their house, but that's it.

I have a super-Christian missionary friend that has tried to press her beliefs on me and I know she prays for me. But I brush it off and don't let it bother me anymore.

The thing we, as Pagans, have to remember is that it is part of their beliefs to want to convert us. That is part of the faith and the tradition. And in being respectful of another's faith (which is part of OUR tradition), we also have to respect the fact that they are going to want us to find Jesus.
I know that some Christians go over-the-top in their discrimination and their hate, but it is just fear. I would say, don't let it bother you, but also don't go out of your way to talk about it. You can be proud of your beliefs without making them uncomfortable. Even if they are not as courteous to you, you can set a good example.

To me, faith is personal so I keep it that way. I share it with the people close to me, no matter when their religions, but for anyone other than my primary social group, the only way they know is if it comes up and I feel that they will understand. If not, they don't know anything about it :)

Just my humble opinions. I guess this reply isn't really about prejudice, but I felt like saying this. I hope I do not offend by going slightly off-topic!

Blessings,
Serra

*Sigh* I lease office space from uber Christian people...ya' know, the kind that talk about demons, the end of the world etc. as part of their regular, everyday conversations. My landlady lives above my business and frequently comes down to visit me. She's really nice and many of her friends are now my patrons, however, I'd hate to see how they'd treat me if they knew that I was Pagan. From what I can tell, they assume that I'm Christian and (seeing as I'm stuck with the lease for several years) I have no problem them thinking that!

So do I. However I haven't experianced any real discrimination over my path because I keep it pretty much to myself. I do wear a pentagram/triple moon necklace and rings that signify my path but the only remarks I've had are weird looks, compliements on how pretty they are, and a "g'day" from a complete stranger (who was also wearing a pentacle).

Serves the buggers right.

They can dish it out but they can't take it.

It's not the first time I've heard of Christians not being able to deal with a Pagan offering to pray for them, maybe you've given their certainties a little poke, so well done.
