View Full Version : Losing my Falmiliar

I might have to give away my kitty.

On Friday night I came home to find he was very, very sick. To make a very long story short, I don't have the money for a large ($500) vet bill, so I contacted the SPCA, who agreed to pay the bill, but I had to sign ownership over to them. The plan was for me to reclaim him, and then pay the SPCA in installments.
However, because his condition has the possibility of being recurring (he had kidney stones, which caused a blockage in his bladder, so he couldn't urinate), the SPCA can't/won't do a payment plan with me. So if I don't come up with $522.33, then I have to let the SPCA keep him. (And no, I don't know anyone who can help me).
I'm lost, for what to do. He's my familiar....a part of me....giving him away is like purposely cutting off my finger.
What can I do??

publicity can help. "SPCA ONLY AGREES TO HELP IF THEY CAN
KEEP ANIMAL" "SPCA IN IT FOR THE BUCKS: WONT AGREE TO
TAKE PAYMENTS"
How well do you know your vet? Can you affortd payments?
anyone or place(they suck but the're there) you can borrow from?
Relatives? Donation cans? at vets?

And what does the SPCA plan to do with the cat after they pay
for the surgery? truly horrible to give someones pet away just
because they cant come up with the money right away.

send em' a petition. Get it noticed.

I would start a fund for getting him back it is legal so long as you are honest about what the money is going for. Borrow and get a loan (lie like a dog if you have to, so long as it wont get you in trouble), and a spell never hurt, if nothing else intrust your cat to the goddess for safety so they dont do anything stupid. I hope you get him back.

when my fathers kitty of 14 years developed stones, the vet gave us two options..surgery or change his diet. surgery was not an option because of his age it would have been dangerous and life threatening. however we changes to a special diet. it took about three weeks for the diet to work which sucked because he was in emence pain and didnt want to be handled at all and at times had accidents. but it worked. i cant remember the exact diet but i can ask my dad. ask your vet for other alternatives. i worked for a vet for a year and often times they perscribed "human" medication to cats to help with certain conditions. if your vet does not want to give you any options seek a second opinion. also what type of vet you go to helps too. vets that are specifically for felines are the best as they offer more options. but if i were you id look at other alternatives

Now, the LAST thing I want to do is rag on the SPCA. They are a wonderful organization who helped me when no one else would. I was on the phone for 1 1/2 hours trying to find a vet who would treat my kitty without advance payment. The SPCA saved my cat's life that night....he would have died if they hadn't helped him. I owe them much, much gratitude.

The point is moot, however. My kitty's condition worsened and we were forced to have him put down last night....he was just in too much pain, and not much more could be done for him.

His name was Morpheus....but I'm not sure if he actually knew that. He was affectionately called either Cat, kit-kat, or (by me only), meow-thing.

I'm sorry to hear that Amethyst. :( I know I would be really heartbroken if my cat died so I feel for you. I'll light a candle for him as well.

I am sorry to hear of your loss :( I remember when I lost the very first cat I ever had. I cried for days. We did a special memorial for her...that helped me a lot. Helped give me a sense of closure in a way, although I will never truly get over loosing her. Maybe you could do something like that? we just put a few of her toys in a box and put a picture of her on the top, said a prayer for her safe passing and buried it. *BIG HUGS* and many many blessings.

Love&Light,

My prayers continue to be with you, and with morpheus. I lost a beloved familiar a little over a year ago. The pain does lessen in time, but...the memories live on forever. (((((((((((((((((((YOU))))))))))) remember to ask for help if you need to talk. We're here for you!
