My cat envys my dog's walks! I just got back from taking the dog for a walk and my cat who has been recently banned from the house, followed us all the way through! I think I am going to have to buy cat collars and leeshes for the walks... Were do you get help for a cat who wants to be a dog? I know I am applying species roles to them and bad me for doing that but come on she is a seven pound sick cat who wants to be a thirty pound hyper dog! She is even acting like a dog when we are not walking... Poor confused thing...
HELP!

Ok it doesn't mean the cat wants to be a dog lol
Some people (especially when they live in big cities) take their cats for walks. I recommend using a brace, not just a leash on a collar, as it is less likely to hurt the cat and they're prone to dashing off into a tree or wiggling. Some people start kittens on that when they're little so they're used to it when they're older.
hehe it makes me think of saying "that guy is such a pansy, he wears makeup". :rotfl:

You say your cat has recently been banned from the house?? Maybe your cat feels..well.. banned from the house and wants some interaction and attention. Maybe if you spend some time playing with your cat and just hanging out with your cat s/he won't try to be your dog.
May i ask why the cat was banned from the house? It seems pretty severe for a beloved pet who has been used to the intimacy of being indoors with you to suddenly be banned.

Her brother couldnt figure out how to use the cat box so they both got the boot.

Some cats don't like to share a cat litter box with another cat.
Why not try having two litter boxes several feet away from each other?
You might have to help the brother cat learn that his box is his own... maybe by leaving him shut in a room by himself, with his litter box in one end of the room and his food and water in the other, until he learns to use the box... then gradually move it closer and closer to the other litter box till you get them both in the same room.
Cats are naturally clean. If a cat isn't using the litter box, that cat is trying to tell you something. Have you had the brother cat checked by the vet? There might be some sort of medical reason if it's not the shared kitty litter reason.
To suddenly ban to the outside a cat that has grown up with house privleges is .. well..... it seems unfair to the cats. On the other hand, a cat that doesn't use the litter box is just not pleasant to live with. Have you talked about this with your vet? bb talamh

One of our cats does the same thing. He'll follow us when we're walking the dog. He usually stays pretty close so no need for a leash.
