i have been browsing a site lately called www.seawitch.org
just curious if anyone is into this?
i love the ocean.. sitting by it, bathing in it, painting it..
i'm all about the water
scorpio sun/pisces moon/cancer signature sign
thought this is a very simple and practical way to get involved in nature worship...especially since i live in hawaii now and surrounded by the ocean
about a year ago.. i left a coven and it just seemed that all my teachings through them held little meaning for me...
i think i would like to take a new approach
maybe i can start this thread by asking is their any particular ocean/water diety you feel at home with?
the ones i know of so far.. yemaya, aphrodite, poseiden

I actually saw a book on one site about sea witchery (or sea magic, i can't remember), which looked interesting, maybe when i get some money (which as i'm a student, i'm not sure when that'll be) i'll buy it, but the site looks interesting.

Yup, I have been working with this path for a while, mixing it with Celtic cosmology & Druidry. Sea witchcraft is kind of a Hedgewitch path except with a cove as as in a Covewitch. Coves, beaches, & banks are a inbetween place, a place of strong connection to both worlds. As well as flowing energy and magic. You do not have to live by the ocean to pactice or live this path, any body of water will do including rivers, streams, and creeks. the use of Sea salt is important though... that is when setting up your alter and pratice the use of as many water to ocean related items, plants, tools, nets, animal symbolism helps alot.
I love weather, storm, scrying and knots magick, as well as other areas too. This path works well with the triple realms Sky, Sea, Land. The site menchen is the only true sorce for this path on the net. However, this is pricisely the Witchcraft that King James (I think it was?) was afraid of and thought was trying to drown him in his travels by Sea & Ocean.:hahugh::yayah: 8O
Plus many superstichens(sp?), legends, and spells go back a long ways among seafaring communities and salors.

Cloe, did you have any other references for this path, since you've been involved in it.. such as books or other websites.. that one site is the only reference i came upon besides a mermaid sister site to that one

Well, there is a great" Recommended Reading" list on the site.
But I do not think these two are listed let:
Magickal Mermaids and Water Ceatures: Invoke the Magick of the Waters, by D.J. Conway
And well this one is not spicifically witchcraft but it does have info on working with the sea and water scrying:
The Mondern-Day Druidress, By Cassandra Eason
pages:47-50, 54-60, water divination98-100. There is info on the triple realms of corse and working them together.
I would sugest looking up sea folklore on the web and in Libraries.
The only really good sorce for this path is the one already list the few others I have found in the past have no new info on them. As the lady who put the site togather has said: "this is a path you peice together your self."
From a paragraph and sentance here & there, a legand or myth, all gathered togather to create a whole. This is not a mystery tredition your iniciated into. The oceans or waters them selves call the ones drawn to this path. Its laws; are the laws of the sea and nature, not of humans. This is a inbetween path living and working with the shadows, dark and the light. Most are solitaries, but I do not see why others if they wanted could not study and work in groups. The interesting thing is that there are alot of old legends and stories about sea or water witches through out the uk, british islands and even the coasts of the America's.
There is a book that was released (I think) last year covering this area, but it was release in the uk or british Islands and I can not remember the title...it was suposed to become available soon here but i have not seen or heard anything. I want the book myself so I'll see if I can find info on it.
Also there are certain areas of magick that are very much a core to this path such as Knot, mirror, weather & wind, scrying, water spells, certain gods and goddess, use of shells, phocus on aquatic animals- those that live only in water, both land and sea; plus sea birds. Anyway, much of this is on the site at least ideas and areas to look into.

I grew up in a sea fairing community (and still live in sea fairing comunity) so I learnt a lot of the traditional methods and beliefs
In a way there is a stronger association with darkness and death then any book or website I've seen on the path states (Due to the fact that I know a number of people who have drowned as most people who live in sea fairing areas will have experienced)

There is a book by D.J. Conway called "Magickal Mermaids and Water Creatures: Invoke The Magick of The Waters"
Even though this book does not really explain about the path of Sea Witchery, but it introduced a lot of the mythical Sea creatures and how to work with them.

I agree this path deals with Darker areas of life, the shadow side of nature. Which is what I like about it, working with the shadows helps prepare me to deal lifes trobled times and challanges. To not be so afraid and able to handle and face situations far better than I would if I did not work with these energys.

I'm drawn to the ocean too. I live in the mountains, where i was born, but if I could choose I would live near the ocean or some other body of water.

I joined their forum, not very busy, but informative. I live in Ohio, no where near the sea. That doesn't mean I can't still be drawn to it. I do like this site though.

There is, of course, Dion Fortune's 'The Sea-Priestess', which should be on everyone's reading list whether they actually give a damn for the sea or not :)

Hi fellow sea/ocean lovers,
Two new books are available about the sea path now.
One I have and am only half way through, it's titled "Sea Magic", by Sandra Kynes
the other is titled "Sea Witch" by Wendy Joubert
both are avialiable on Amazon & I found Sea Magic at Barns & Noble. I will post more later just thought you all would like to know.
