This, IMHO represents the 'chains that bind you'. You are bound to a situation, realize it and can't seem to break free. This is an imprisonment of sorts. I feel this may also signify that you are feeling controlled by someone or something. An obligation, something you can't get out of.

Hi all!
In The Witches' Tarot this card is called The Horned God.This one's a lot different.Kind of a scary lookin' dude.
He's for sure a lusty fellow. All that red!And the fire too.Maybe chained by your own desire. But ultimately you can have power over them. Then there's the downward pointing pentagram.I think of this as knowledge, not as the Satan symbol, but a sign of initiation.Maybe knowledge of one's hidden self.
Peace and Love

I believe this card represents how we get in our own way. What are the things we are doing to ourselves that are inhibiting our success.

Great takes guys.. :)

This card for me is all about deception and more than likey to be sexual!
All the kind of tricky funny saying about the devil apply to this card - a lusty fellow as Brightstar said but he's also playing with the two lovers, tempting adam and eve, causing a bit of havoke and getting his own way.
I think when this comes up it shows a lie in the spread, in relationship or work ~ the querrant is either deceiving others or being deceived by others, they arre probally too care free and not thinking of others and the consequences of our own actions. He is therefore showing us that we have to release ourselves from a situation.
The Devil shows us our naughty animal side, passions, seducing, tempting and lying and reveals the truth.

here are my two little horny devil's...

Description:
A naked man and woman dragging a chained chest full of gold and jewels seemingly in opposite directions. They are in a long hall that at the one visible end has an open doorway. The man is pulling towards the visible door, stretching out a free arm towards freedom. The woman is straining towards us in the picture. The couple seem to be unchained themselves. There is no image of a devil figure represented on this card.

I feel this card shows our differences (man and woman). Thus the struggle to pull the chest in opposite directions. They are getting nowhere however because the trunk is chained securely from the walls and floor. I feel they are naked to represent their vulnerability to being prisoners of their desires. I think the trunk represents those desires. I believe it also points out how we can be free if we just chose to walk away.

We are often guilty of placing things in life that are wants and desires in the same catagory as what are necessities in life. By doing this we become enslaved or bound by these things and cannot let them go. This hinders our growth and forward movement, we stagnate in the things/situations that bind us.

Another thought, this card also represents the struggle and conflict we personify the positive/negative energy of the universe to have. We are the combination of both forces, we are not purely good or evil, positive or negative, and spiritual or physical. We are the manifestation of opposites, male and female, spiritual and physical...ect. We have properties and traits of opposite forces within us. We need to embrace these and quit fighting what and who we are.

okay, kind of went off on a tangent there...but I hope I got what I was trying to say out. I hope it isn't as confusing as it seems to read...LOL!

DESCRIPTION

Lucifer. Mephistopheles. Satan. The Prince of Darkness. No matter what we call him, the Devil is our symbol for what is bad and undesirable. From our human perspective, we see the world as a struggle between light and dark. We want to vanquish the bad so the good can prevail. In fact, good and bad cannot be separated, just as you cannot separate a shadow from its source. Darkness is simply the absence of light, and it is caused by errors that hide the truth. Card 15 shows us these errors.

First is ignorance - not knowing the truth and not realizing that we do not know. Second is materialism - the belief that there is nothing but the physical. As spiritual beings, we long for the Divine, but we lose contact with this source of truth if we trust only our senses. There is also hopelessness, which robs us of our joy and movement toward the light.

Traditionally the Devil stands for evil, but it does not have this rather frightening meaning in a reading. This card lets you know that you are caught in an unhealthy, unproductive situation. You may be in the dark about something - ignorant of the truth and its implications. You may be obsessed by a person, idea, substance or pattern that you know is bad for you (or maybe you don't!). Sometimes this card reflects back the negativity that has made you doubt yourself and your future. We are prone to many errors in life. Card 15 lets us know when they are serious enough to require attention. When you see the Devil, examine your assumptions carefully. Make sure you are not working from a false picture of yourself and the situation. Hold fast to the highest vision of who you are.

Self enslavement. Something to hide. Something lusty and binding. It is correct to know that this coincides with the Lovers. The lovers are #6 and The Devil #15 (1+5=6 for ex.).

Ultimately, someone has something to hide here. They may not like it but they may sense no escape.
