Ok..either I am dumb or I haven't l looked hard enough ( I think its a bit of both) but I just found this thread..and its what I have been looking for. Shees..takes me long enough..hehe....anywho.. I think I am either an empath and telepath or an empath with a touch of telepathic abilities..let me see what you think as the 'experts'....
Lately, I can sense emotions..mostly current emotions, but if I am really connected to someone I can sense past emotions, but I when I sense the past emotions, I can then sense the reason behind them. Let me give you an example. I was trying to test out if I was empathic and a friend allowed me to link to him..I was able to get how he was feeling and then I was filled with a sense of fear and sadness..I started to feel as if there was water all around me and I heard a little boy.. I felt the fear and terror of him. I instantly knew that I was seeing my friend as a child..I then started to feel the resentment and abondoment he felt.. I was getting pretty freaked so I stopped and instantly grounded myself..When I told my friend what I saw and felt he then said he was often punished as a child with water..no..I never knew this about my friend as we had only recently met within the last few months.. I was pretty freaked out as that had never happened before...so..now my original question..empathy & telepathy or just a strong form of empathy??
Thanks for listening...I hope you don't think I am a freak...I haven't told many about this...

hello. I felt the same as you a few years ago when I discovered I wasn't a freak but an empath! It's a great feeling :) welcome

If you are a freak, then so are the rest of us, and in that case, we'll all be freaks together, because you sound just like us, afraid to tell about things that other people might laugh at us for, wondering if there is something wrong with us because other people aren't like us. We all know it all too well! Here you are safe, you can discuss these weird things, because there is probably someone that has "been there, done that" and knows exactly what you mean, and can help you understand it.

Well if this is being a freak so be it. We have alot of info here in different threads. Read them, and see how they relate to you. Also alot of support is available. So if you need help, need to vent about empathics, here is the place. Start with the Bunker, which was the original thread and go from there.

Going through the threads is really time consuming, but well worth it! I have learned alot, still having problems applying it before things get out of hand though. I have only learned what empath is not long ago, and I don't think about what is happening in time! I just keep trying.

Hey Chesna, welcome to the Bunker. An Empath often feels what others are feeling without having to establish some kind of connection first. A psychic or a medium is able to establish a connection with someone (often by using a tool such a tarot or palmistry) and then can pick up feelings and thoughts from that person. It can be a little confusing when a person is both an Empath and a Psychic.

So if I understand you Lunacie..you think what I am is an empath and psychic more than empath and telepath?? If thats the case, it gives me the case of :awilly: I guess I really do have a lot to learn...

Yep, pretty much so. The reason this looks more like being psychic than being telepathic is that you didn't say you were getting current thoughts, and I doubt that the person you connected to was actively thinking of that situation from his childhood. You can click on the link in my siggie line for the Universal Empath to learn a lot about being an Empath.
Umm, why does the idea of being a psychic give you a case of :awilly:, yet the idea of being a telepath apparently doesn't?

Yes, its real. :)
And... just MO, but telepathy is generally categorized as a reading of thoughts... empathy is categorized by a reading of emotions. I can do a combination of the two at times... but its generally when a person is feeling particularly angry.

To be in all honest it all gives me the :awilly: but I thank you for your thoughts. Now I am the type that needs to muddle and think and brood for awhile..
Ok..with my brooding done..its time to start learning and exploring....but out of curiosity....what do others think is the first important thing to learn or understand about being an empath???

In my opinion, the most important thing is to learn to tell the difference between your own feelings and emotions (and thoughts as well) and the other feelings and emotions (and thoughts) that you may pick up from people around you. Tying in with that would be practicing letting go of the emotions you pick up from others. You will still know how they feel because you have felt it, but they are not your emotions to carry around with you so learn how to release them.
There are a lot of good techniques posted around here (MW) on how to create a shield. Use the search function in the bar at the top of the screen for "shields" or "shielding".
