I dont read cards cause I dont need too but I do like the art on some of them so I was wondering what decks (and what cards from those decks) you like to use? I have two decks that I dont use but they are cool to look at, one is a feary wicca deck with all sorts of neat celtic gods on it. the other is a dragon deck which is ok, I bought it for the cover card the fool, the moon is ok too. I really want a sacred circle (or something) deck cause of the computer generated art on it looks kind of neat. I have a boring angel deck that is located right next to my mothers bible burried in the basement with all sorts of other christian artifacts of my mothers .
So what decks do you have and like and what decks do you like to use?

No one *needs* to use tarot cards; we like to. What do you think you're better then us or something :rotfl:
btw there's a big thread on what decks people use and like - http://www.mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8738&highlight=tarot+decks

Yeesh a bit sensitive! No that wasnt what I meant, I just dont use a crutch for a leg that works fine on its own, sorry if you find that offensive.

i rarely 'read' with my cards, but certainly not because i see them as a crutch (what a strange idea!).
i see the tarot as a key to the subconscious, to that mysterious part of our own minds where magick resides.
by learning the archetypes and meditating on them (and the tarot system as a whole), i find that i'm more able to understand some of those seemingly weird messages that the deep subconscious sends, whether through dreams, or meditations, or visions or whatever. that part of the brain doesn't speak in or recognize 'language', it works through symbols. so that is the way to access it.
that is why i find 'theme' decks rather useless for this kind of work. i enjoy collecting them, but i just can't work with them. and this is because at some point the theme can come into conflict with the archetypal key, and the creator of the deck must, for the sake of continuity, go with his concept rather than the deeper meaning of the tarot.
as a result the symbolism usually suffers, and the connection to the subconscious weakens with it.
so, to answer your question, i usually work with what i consider 'serious' tarot decks (oh, i can hear the uproar now!). and of those there is NOTHING to compare with the Thoth deck by Aleister Crowley and Lady Freida Harris.
(hear comes the disclaimer...) IMO.

Well put Greenman.
For me I find a deck that helps me elevate above simple mundane thought; decks that are artistic and elaborate that enable me to step away from my conscious judgmental mind and into a more open frame of mind that is more receptive to messages from higher consciousness. As you said, this area of perception is above the realms of "language" or any other mundane means. The mind has been conditioned to label and categorize so I find it imperative to reach beyond that thinking back to a time when daydreaming and "fantasizing" were more acceptable. With my mind open it is easier for messages to come through.
(and yes for the record I found calling tools "a crutch for a broken leg" amusing too)

:T You guys!
I totally agree with Greenie and Myst, and can see why Mato would think that they are an excuse (crutch) rather than an extension.. an extension of your higher self/ the enrgoies around you/ your god or goddess/your spirit guide....
Its the most common criticisim of tarot isnt it, but what people dont realise is Tarot only shows one of many paths/ways/futures/feelings.. so how can it really help us? How can it really be a crutch? Isnt it a mirror ~ showing us what could/can be, to explore the self more, to live life more?
Ask yourself why you dont want to read with them? Why you dont need too? & then why are you in this forum?
I get that you are attracted to them because of there style and art ~ but why? why not other paintings and works of art? Why tarot? Dont you think theres somehting deeper going on and someone inside there wants to have a play to actually read and see what they are trying to tell you?
