candle and pennies for money

Question

A friend of mine told me about a spell where you take a black candle put 1 penny to the W, 1 to the E, 1 to the N and 3 to the S. Making a "cross" of sorts You light the candle at midnight and leave. You go back in the morning and the drippings will tell you where money is to come from in your life.

Here are the questions:

ever heard of this?
know where it came from?
specifically who the spell is connecting with? A certain diety??

Sorry, I've never heard that one, but I believe I'll try it. Any explanation why it's 3 to the South, as opposed to any other direction?

Nope sorry no reason. I am with you though I think I will try it also. My friend really hopes some one can "know" more about this to give him some more information. He is very answer driven.

I've seen a similar spell before but it was 1 to south. I don't know where it originates from or which deity, though. I would be interested to know why 3 as well.
