Hey everyone. My house has mice. The bigger problem is that they are too smart. They are not falling for the pellets or traps. Are there any tips for me?

Could you have a small dog instead of a cat? a terrier
Every winter our house gets mice. We have to make sure that food is not accessable so incouraging them but nothing else has ever worked very well. They get in no matter how many holes I block up. they just want somewhere warm to live I guess. I do know that when you trap them they need to be realsed at least a set distance from the house (can't remember what) or they will be straight back. that aways make me feel bad because I thought about their little families :( so we didn't use traps

If you can find where they are coming in stuff the holes with brillo or steel wool pads. Are you in a house or an apartment?

Glue traps that are baited with peanut butter. Works every time. You catch them and then toss the whole trap away. They will occasionally squeak though when they're trying to get unstuck so beware of that if you're squeamish. I'm not squeamish at all and I'd rather they be gone than have any in the house.

Any tips for someone who can't use traps or poison? I've got ferrets and they will get into it if it is there. I live in an old apartment, an old house broken into apartments. I can't have a cat (and, honestly, don't want another animal... the ferrets are more than enough.) The ferrets are NOT mousers... they are definately domesticated ferrets. I've debated the sonic things... but I don't want to harm the ferrets.

there are traps you can buy that are only small enough for a mouse. They are like tubes and once the mouse is inside it closes. The mouse isn't harmed either. I have the larger size for rats, incase one of my pet ones escape.

we had a problem with mice a few years ago, they stayed outside, and ate the rabbit food, which was a problem... my dog would go after them and crush them in her mouth, then drop them... but she didn't catch many... we had to get zillions of traps, bait them with peanut butter, and wait... we just tossed them when we caught one... i love mice, so i hated doing this... we did manage to catch 3 little babies who had managed to wiggle their way into the box where we keep the rabbit food, so we brought them over to a friend who had a snake... i can't stand glue traps though, the mouse just suffers until it starves to death... the snap traps instantly kill, so they are at least painless... but i really love mice, and i hated having to kill so many... after the first zillion or so, they went away on their own... i think we have a scout every so often, but the dogs do a pretty good job of keeping them away... and the only mouse we ever had in the house was my pet mouse, Felicity... oh, except the mouse that was living in my sisters underwear drawer a few years ago... that was funny... anyways, good luck with your mice problem, and i hope you can find a simple solution that will work for you...

Since I am not aloowed a cat in my house I use the sonic mousetraps and hve not seen any in almost a year of use. And I think the new stray cats have helped outside to :D

Glue traps are very safe for people and pets, even ferrets. A little vegetable oil gets you unstuck. Ask me how I know. *L*

Well, with that I'm afraid of two things:
One: Ferret finds trapped mouse and is savaged by it (my ferrets, distinct possibility.)
Two: I've done glue traps before. Not for mice. For spiders. I really don't wanna know.... *shudders*

Hey everyone. My house has mice. The bigger problem is that they are too smart. They are not falling for the pellets or traps. Are there any tips for me?This reminds me of that country and western song I ought to write some day about the early years of my marriage, titled "Mouse Sh!t in my Raisin Bran."
I tried all of that stuff, starting out nice, and getting progressively more nasty. What I finally wound up with was a Crossman Pumpmaster 760 airgun with a 2X scope and some pointed field pellets.
I'm serious about that, incidentally. I put peanut butter in a dish in the middle of the room, and sat on the far side of the other room. When one came out, POW. One less invader taking a dump in my food.
I was pretty much freaked out and royally pissed off by that point. I'm not normally the sort who delights in blowing some poor creature's brains out.

I hear you. Sometimes it becomes all out war...they chew wires, eat and foul food, crap on the dishes and piss in the spoons. Enough is enough.
I use snap traps and glue traps. I peel them off the glue traps and drop a brick or patio stone on them to kill them. I check the traps twice a day.
I never bother the critters outside, but when they come in and start destroying stuff...I fight back.
I reuse both the snap and glue traps. I'm not the squeamy sort.
