Well, this evening my local PBS station ran the show: Sweeney Todd in Concert: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street . For those of you who do not know it's a twisted little tale about a barber who seeks revenge and sets out killing people. The bodies are "disposed" of via Mrs. Lovett's meat pie shop.

Yes, it's a twisted little thing, but the music is very powerful and wonderful. Tonight's production featured George Hearn as Sweeney and Patti LuPone as Mrs. Lovett.

Hey, I'm an over educated fella with a twisted mind, what can I say? I'm also a Doors freak and I love Ozzy, ZZTop and Alice!

Yeah, but isn't 'Sweeney Todd' based (however loosely) on a true story?
I've read "Le Morte d'Arthur" in the original 15th c. English.
How's that for over-educated? Nyah, nyah.
Actually, it gave me a whopping headache. I started & restarted it so often, I wore it (& a midievil-English dictionary out).
Egads. I've got a copy of "Canterbury Tales", also in the original 15th c. English. I've started it, but I have to get a new midievil dictionary.
Yeah, yeah...the Jewish broad's weird.

Yes, it is based on a legend that is thought to be true.

Cool about reading in the 15C English. That is quite difficult. One of my fav jokes is asking someone which "translation" of Shakespeare are they reading, but he is later, although not that much later. He was quite a bawdy spirit too :).

Nah, yer not weird, just well read :).

well, i don't know about the rest, but i can relate to Alice (be it 'Cooper' or 'in Wonderland')
and yeah, Sweeny Todd is VERY loosely based on fact. hmmm... i wish i had seen that!
my 'Le Morte de Arthur' is the Keith Barnes version, with introduction by Robert Graves. and jeeez, that was slow enough!
however, when i was younger (and ALOT more patient!) i did read a very early translation of Boccoccio's 'Decameron'. that seemed important at the time! but my current copy is the 'Penguin' edition. (i wonder what happened to that old hardback?).
