For those studying the ancient egyptian language...

This site offers some very fascinating evidence that links the current Bantu language to the Ancient Egyptian. I'm amazed at the similarities and it may indeed be an insight of sorts.

Check out this link and see what the rest of you who study the glyphs and spoken Ancient Egyptian think...

Linguistics and languages are two of my passions, so I was very interested in the information offered by this website.

There are indeed similarities in the vocabulary. However, as the author of the website chose no to analyse the Bantu and Ancient Egyptian syntax and sentence structures, the conclusion that Ancient Egyptian is related to the Bantu language family is hasty at best.

One sentence made me cringe: "The main thrust into understanding the Ancient Egyptian language has been achieved by using the Kiswahili-Bantu language". I am not exactly sure what they mean by that, but if they are implying that Ancient Egyptian was deciphered thanks to the Bantu language, Champollion must be rolling in his grave.
Everyone knows that the key to understanding Ancient Egyptian was Coptic, even though it has been demonstrated since that the Coptic phonetic values could not be applied to the Ancient Egyptian language.

I think that there could very well be deep similarities between both languages. After all, Bantu is, I think, one of the most widespread African languages, so its influence certainly can be far-reaching, even though it is mostly spoken in Southern Africa.
However, claiming that Ancient Egyptian is related to that family, based only on some similarities in vocabulary, seems like jumping to conclusions to me.
Hopefully we will be able to see more research in this direction (which is quite likely since afrocentrist theories are getting more prominent in egyptology), because this is quite interesting.
Languages are fascinating :)

Thank you for posting this, Het-Hert :)

It would make sense for Bantu and Ancient Egyptian to share a common root language, but that wouldn't necessitate that the two be as deeply related as the article implies.

After all, most European languages are derivations from an Indo-European base language.

Thank you HetHert. :)
