So your mom is making you write a report on it? I think that's great on her part ( i know it's frustrating for you because you have to write the report), but to me it shows that she's not only looking to see if you understand what you're doing, but it seems like she's also open (at least a little) to learning about it as well. Make sure to cite your references in your report and maybe even hand her a book on it to read - one that shares your views - so she can see that it really isn't a demonic way of life. People tend to be afraid of what they don't understand, so anything you can do to help her would help you in the long run as well.

I'm still new to the wiccan thing myself, so I'm probably not the best person to ask for information, but I'm here to help if you need it. I'm great with putting thoughts together if you have an idea of what you want to say and just don't know how to say it. Feel free to PM or email me!

If you want acceptance take the fluffiest book and base your report on that, if you want understanding base it on the books you use. Assuming you don't want to scare the hell out of her kindly leave out demon summoning, necromancy, and the whole sex magic thing. So basically choose the information that will give your mother the perception that you want her to have. That being said honesty is often the best policy.

Yikes. That can suck when family members flip out on you. But she'll come around eventually. Do that report, write it and let her know what you think, why you think it,and why you don't want to believe how she does. Tell her what it's all about.

Even if she doesn't like it after that, she can't stop you totally from believing in it. My mom tried to, but I think she gave up in the end because she can't control my thoughts. She know's it be a losing fight.. especially with me cuz I'm stubborn like that. Haha.

But really, give it some time to sink in and don't try to avoid her... but try to let her ask questions and what not. It will help. :)

Awesome advice Lyra. I think that this report is a great chance for you to step up and teach your Mom a thing or two. Show her the why and what of how you believe. Show her how it helps you to be a stronger better person to have a belief system that feels RIGHT to you and not just one that is shoved down your throat.

I agree with citing references as much as possible. Skip the fluffy bunny crap if possible because most people with a brain know that that isnt anything more than moneymaking fluff wasting the paper it was written on and the poor trees lives were wasted as well. Show facts, give examples and have people proof-read it so you can get other people to help you see the papers strengths and weakness in order to give your mom the best possible overview of your beliefs.

Thats what i'd do anyway.
