hey everyone. I was hoping we could play abit of "name that Goddess"
I believe that a deity might be trying to get my friend's attention.
My friend has been seeing a woman follow him. He says that she's always completely covered in black, and only her face is showing. She wear a black dress, presumably black stockings, black leathery looking cloves and black (sometimes dark red) hair, either loose but mostly tied in a pony-tail. Her skin is paler than a "normal person's" skin
He's has also seen a fox and a mouse on different occasions... I assume that this is related, but I am not sure.
She only follows him at night, when it is dark... and never when he is out of town.
She doesn't do anything but follow him and "make him feel uneasy"
I've searched online for something similar with no luck yet, although I will keep on trying. But perhaps one of you would know?
thanks alot!

Sounds like he has a sexy goth chick stalking him....I will try to look through my goddess books----but first, does he have any reason to believe this woman is not a flesh and blood type?---shuvanilu

because she's in his house and just "appears"
it's not like he's walking down the street and there she is.
He somehow knows that she's a vision, like the fox and the mouse (which just appeared inside buildings)
also, he's the only one who sees them

Ahhh...when you siad that she followed him, I though you meant on the street. WEll, I'll do some looking around. Is there a possibility that she could be a ghost?---shuvanilu

yeah. I thought about that too. I don't know how to tell. I just thought that since he also saw visions of a fox and a mouse that they might be related....
She does follow him in the sense that she goes wherever he does at night... but she's not made of flesh.

Hmmmm...Well, I did some surfing and found this nifty site where you can cross referrence totem animals (among toher things) with Goddesses. Check this out:
http://findagoddess.com/totempage.php
There are a lot of Goddesses under "mouse" but the only one I found under fox was Inari...Japanese Mother, symbols/rules death, fertility, ghosts, kinship and love. Red items are her symbols. At any rate, you said she is always dressed all in black. A google search on dark goddesses might be a next step. Lilith, The Morrigan, Kali, Hecate... You say she makes him feel uneasy...Some of the Dark Goddesses would definitely make me feel uneasy if they showed up. As far as the possibility of her being a ghost, are you comfortable with Ouja? Maybe you can get some answers that way.---shuvanilu

Lilithu came to mind, as once when she appeared to me, she was pale, wore dark clothing, and the look in her eyes was a dark, shadowy seduction. At first I didn't realize it was her until I did some research and remembered a previous vision where she appeared to me.

Yeah, I narrowed it down to a dark goddess....and you might be right about Lilith.
A weird thing happened to me today. I got off the light rail transport ans started to walk towards my bus. As I walked up the path, I noticed a large round figure perched on the gard rail ahead of me. It was a dark owl, staring at me. I stopped walking, so I wouldn't scare i because I was facinated by it. It seemed equally fascinated in me,but seemed to scrutinize me too. suddenly... It screeched and flew towards me, then turned to perch on a tree... still glaring at me, keeping me in its sight. Perhaps I shouldn't anthropomorphize its actions so much, but it was kinda spooky.
And I am reminded to write this since, as I looked up Lilithu, I noticed that her totem is an owl. maybe that was her "Back Off!"

It sound's like Lilith to me, i haven't had many visions of her but i've kind of had a few images that i've kind of built up, since i think she did come to me once, when i was going through some personal problem's, maybe you should tell your friend to look into Lilith.

one thing i don't get though... This woman... she is completely covered except for her face and hair.... but lilith is a very sexual goddess.
Does anyone see something wrong with that? I mean, If It was lilith, wouldn't she be a little more disrobed? Or am I jumping to conclusions
Is It odd that lilith would be seeking out a male?

it's just that everywhere I read, it talks about Lilith seeking out women, not men. That she's sort of anti-man and woman power. can definately be wrong though. I never really searched for or researched Lilith before. Not the path I had chosen for myself... so i never looked into it.

heh....leather gloves and black stockings sound pretty sexy to me. Sometimes the sexiest thing to do is keep your "good stuff" hidden. lol

Only when he is home, or also other places?
Dreaming, waking, or both?
Any attempts at communication from her? by him?
Carrying anything?
With the Fox and/or mouse or seperately?
How uneasy? Does he want her to go away or to stay and communicate?
Depending, he could try to contact her either outside his safe space or in dreams.
He could try to seal off his safe space and dis-invite her at some level of vehemence--please go, get out, never come here again............
He could read up on kitsume and mouse spirits/Goddesses and confront her with better understanding.
He could spin around, make eye contact, and thunder out "What!!!???"

It happens when he's waking. I think other places, but not in other cities. She never says anything... or if she does, he can't hear it. She doesn't carry anything and the Fox and mouse happened on different occasions, and not with the girl. He says the girl looks like she's 16-17 years old. I think that although she scares him... he wouldn't mind communicating with her.
This sometimes happens when other people are around. they don't see her (or the animals) when it happens.

I would clump myself in with the Spirit-rather-than-Goddess group. In my experience, Goddesses identify what They want. I think your friend should just ask the mysterious spirit what her agenda is. If he follows the practice, he could create a little circle of 'safe space' to sit in and meditate about what she is trying to communicate. Folklore tells us that ill-intentioned spirits have to be invited into private dwellings, but she could still have an agenda that he might not want to fufill---I wouldn't invite her right inside the head f'instance. If he doesn't follow that practice, he (or someone---you?) could ward his room and he could sit on the threshold and talk to her across it without inviting her in.
Good luck and keep us posted

I agree with skilly here. From your descriptions she sounds more like a spirit of some sort than a goddess. I also think trying to communicate with her, from a safe-place with boundries in place, as she makes him uneasy, is the best way to find out exactly what it she wants and what her agenda is.

I have to agree with Skilly and Mòrag Elasaid Ní Dhòmhnaill. It doesn't sound like a Goddess, but rather a spirit trying to contact him. I seriously doubt its Lilith because she wouldn't be dressed rather conservatively and she'd definetly be a force that wouldn't hide.
Look here on mouse or rats mythology in hinduism:
http://cj_whitehound.madasafish.com/Rats_Nest/Ship_Rats/Deshnok_text.htm
According to one interpretation, Ganesha's divine vehicle, the mouse or mooshikam represents wisdom, talent and intelligence. It symbolizes minute investigation of a cryptic subject. A mouse leads a clandestine life below the ground. Thus it is also a symbol of ignorance that is dominant in darkness and fears light and knowledge. As the vehicle of Lord Ganesha, a mouse teaches us to remain always on alert and illuminate our inner-self with the light of knowledge. Both Ganesha and the Mooshak love modaka, which is traditionally offered to them both during worship ceremonies. The Mooshak is usually depicted as very small in relation to Ganesha, in contrast to the depictions of vehicles of other deities. However, it was once traditional in Maharashtrian art to depict Mooshak as a very large mouse, and for Ganesha to be mounted on him like a horse.
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganesha
Le-Hev-Hev is a Goddess which has an earthly form of a rat.
A Symbol of Psyche and Hecate was the mouse.
Ganesha has a rat as a totem animal.
KuzunoHa and Inari both have earthly forms of foxs (Inari also used them as a messengers).
