Ok once again carrying on the theme idea from the previous months, this month we decided to use Air as this months theme.

Both EternalMaiden and I look forward to reading your poems, and good luck to all.

ETA and Bethra now that she has returned to :D

Looking forward to this month's contest. I haven't written anything yet, but will...

Does the poem have to be all about air? Or could it just have the element in different parts of it. See, I am making a poem about a fairy and it has the element air in it... but it's not all about air. Would that qualify?

but it's not all about air. Would that qualify? I do not see a problem with it.

ETA: check out the 2nd and 3rd post, hope that answeres your question :)

heres mine...i missed last months :(

Ever-changing Air

A swirling current of icy air
Pierces through my winter coat
Chilling me to the bone.

A blustery wind,
Buffeting me to and thro
It has not decided
Where it wants to go.

On a hot summer’s day
That breeze is relished
Without it we’d be burnt.

The random gusts of air
That scoop up the leaves
Disturbing the neat piles
Made in village parks.

Here's mine for this month....technically a song but it can still be read as a poem.

Upon a Dragon’s Wings

High upon the winds of change I fly,
High above the mountains.
Soaring upon the gentle breeze,
I hear a whisper upon the wind.
It sings of the sunsets,
It sings of the stars,
It sings of places beyond the horizon far.

Like a dragon I will soar across the lands.
I will fly to places far beyond the seas.
Like a dragon I will race across the sands.
I will fly to places none have seen,
Which are far beyond my wildest dreams,
And I know that you will fly with me.

High amid the twinkling stars I fly,
Joining in their cosmic dance.
Dancing and singing upon the breeze,
I hear a whisper on the breeze.
It sings of moonlight,
It sings of bards,
It sings of a natural beauty that’s unmarred.

Like a dragon I will soar across the lands.
I will fly to places far beyond the seas.
Like a dragon I will race across the sands.
I will fly to places none have seen,
Which are far beyond my wildest dreams,
And I know that you will fly with me.

High above a sacred landscape I fly,
Over tors and henges.
Weaving through the ancient groves,
I hear a whisper among the trees.
It sings of ritual,
It sings of mystery,
It sings of my people’s history.

Like a dragon I will soar across the lands.
I will fly to places far beyond the seas.
Like a dragon I will race across the sands.
I will fly to places none have seen,
Which are far beyond my wildest dreams,
And I know that you will fly with me.

High upon the winds of time I glide,
Through the past, the present, the future.
Passing through the mists of time,
I here a whisper in my mind.
“Remember what has been”
“Know what you see”
“Think now, forward, to your destiny.”

Like a dragon I will soar across the lands.
I will fly to places far beyond the seas.
Like a dragon I will race across the sands.
I will fly to places none have seen,
Which are far beyond my wildest dreams,
And I know that you will fly with me.

I'm still not sure if this would qualify... If it doesn't, I'll understand. Here goes:

Fairy Tale

Songs of birds fill the air
Winds from the North tug at my hair

Filled with elation
A peaceful sensation
A breathing incantation
Filled with anticipation

With a new hope at dawn
The sun’s light is turned on

Welcoming me to this new day
Is the voice of a fairy on this pathway

Fluttering her wings as she makes merry
Approaching me, she offers a cherry

Magical fruit – a tasty delight
I feel a bit hungry so I take a bite

With a mischievous look, she laughs and she giggles
As I tell her that... “My back, it sure tickles!”

She says, “Its okay, it always tickles at first”
I drop to my knees as the itching gets worse

Suddenly throbbing – I find this so strange
From the reflection in the river, my body has changed

Lo and behold - I can’t believe what I see
I suddenly find fairy wings grown on me

I look to the fairy in utter amazement
Totally aware of her sneaky enchantment

She says, “I’ve come to transform you into a fairy”
“My work here is done”
With that, she flies off towards the prairie

Gust Of Air

Inspiration dawns upon me
As the ever present raven in my mind
Flutters it's wings and conjures up a storm

And a gust of air brings the scent of you
However old I may become I will never forget
That slightest breeze bringing back the memories

And no matter where I sit or go
That gust of air is always with me
Along with the memories of you

And as I lay myself down to sleep
The air grows denser and your presence
Your presence haunts me as I close my eyes

And even in the faintest dream
That scent is holding me in it's hand
And I fly away on the wind and I'll dream of you

Sometimes the air can smother its own
but not today
Feel a gentle caress through the open window
brushing a hair astray

Silk and satin flutter on skin
in a slow barefoot walk to the sky
and dew-sprinkled mists light on golden wings
to will those feet to fly

Swirling scents of leaves and dawn
tickle by in the guise of a breeze
never quite there and teasing
with the secrets from far-away trees

Breathe
a body disappears into the wind
flung up and
carried away
maybe we'll see you again

Air of Water

Yiuqin was a lute of willow, and leaf-shaped,
covered with a thready quilt.
Her quilt was a mat of interwoven bits.
When Yiuqin and her mat sat on your knee,
she had a lilting voice.
She sang of drowsy air-streams
where sun poured through her braided branches,
divided her dusty, flowing hair.

To standing trees, in the first days of Spring,
elders laid down sea salt, yellow spices,
washed well with floral leavings.

Soon, we hoped, we would sing
Hello to sunlight. But only after
-Farewell-
To loved bones of old.

No one knows the reasons she fell,
No one remembered the details even
of this quilted mat, not fully sewn.

Someday the threads will be tied;
a woman will again strum a song,
a woman will sing as Yiuqin.

In that summer land-
we swing on the braided branches,
shaking sunlit clouds through our hair.

Hello, my friends, hello.
