I'm wondering if everyone sits with their family at the table for meals or elsewhere like couch, floor etc. ?

We tend to use the sofa. We think of the actual dinning table as a formal table, so unless we have company or a big pot roast, we will eat at the coffee table

Every dinner, except for maybe weekends...sometimes we're all running around in different directions...and sometimes I just don't like cooking :hahugh: Also, breakfast on the weekends...it's nice having everyone together to see and chat with.

Nope never. I aviod dinning tables, it's a psycological thing I think. I have no rational answer for it. At the moment we eat infront of our computers, because we don't have a dinning table.
My S.O loves dinning tables, no idea why, and is nagging for one. He has an old Japanese dinning table, so i'm thinking of asking him to do it up, that way we have a proper dining table and I can get by pretending it's a picnic!

i try to be at the table but i'm not very strict.i'm more of a "as long as we are together and relaxed at what we are doing" mom.whatever works at that time.my kids are too little to care about a full blown course dinner anyway.

When my kids were growing up, it was a rule that we all ate together when we could be (I worked nights alot). Sometimes it was a real chore to get all eleven of them and the 2 of us together though!

Supper is always at the table and the whole family eats together. Lunch and breakfast are usually at the table, but not all together or even at the same time. No one is allowed to eat in the living room except for chips and popcorn on movie night.

My family is like this. We like to eat together at the table, but it's not a "hafta" thing. :)

We eat together, but the dining room table is for sorting laundry. ^_^ And the kitchen table is for sorting mail. ^_^ We typically eat in the living room, sitting on the futon or other chairs. We'll clean off the dining room table for special occasions, though. ^_^

We eat at the table as a family almost every night. We also eat breakfast together but staggered a little as my husband leaves early (so as he finishes eating the kids are just getting to the table)
My kids tell me that they are a "rarity" as most of their friends never eat with their families.
The kids think it is a pain sometimes (eating together) but if for some reason we don't eat together...they miss it! (and complain lol)

it's nice to know that we aren't the only family that uses the coffee table as a dinner table. Luckily it is a big table, big enough for 5 plates and the food. Although most times we fill our plates in the kitchen and then take them to the table. This is a nightly routine no matter who is home, or if we have guests or not. The kids usually eat breakfast at the kitchen table.

My father always insisted on eating dinners and weekend lunches together as a family. I wouldn't have minded if we actually interacted as a family (or even as fellow human beings). But family dinners always turn into a b****-fest from my father or youngest sister about their day. I'm trying to bring my maimed family together, but it's proving so hard. Eating together is almost torture anymore...my family needs to wake up and interact :(

Before I moved out of the house we always ate dinner together at the table. I liked it. I think I noticed that most of my friends didn't always eat with their folks but I think that's what made it nicer for me. Thinking back on it... the families that didn't eat together are all broken up now... food for thought.
Even now whenever I go back to see my folks (which is often 'cause I don't live that far away) we still eat at the table. Unless there is a ball game on. Then it's hot dogs in the 'media room' (my old bedroom) infront of the tube!
Sheesh! Parents! Couldn't drag them away from the television if I tried!

We eat at the table, unless it is a pizza night. Then we sit in front of the TV and watch movies and eat pizza. mmmm, pizza....

I would if I had one, now the kids are older they mostly eat on the run or out so no we dont have sit down dinners very often and if we do its around the front room, but when they were younger yes we did every meal

We eat at the dinner table. We just bought a new house and have space for a dinner table now, and we have carpet so our 3 year old is not allowed to eat in the living room. When we rented and had hardwood floors we ate in the living room with dinner trays.

We eat wherever... be it in the living room in front of the boob tube, in the bedroom in front of the computer, outside on the porch, in bed, etc... I think it would be gross to eat in our bathroom, or near the cat box. We only use the dining table for formal dinners. We also eat in the car, if we grab fast food.

We sit on the couch... as my table is currently taken up by the computer. (Don't even get me started)
Hoping to be changing that VERY soon, as I don't think its a good example for the munchkins, and I really don't want them carrying food all over the house! :p

About 12 months ago we made it a rule to eat our evening meal together as a family at the dining table. Sometimes my daughter's boyfriend joins us too. We've stuck to it and it's been a good thing. It's a good opportunity to maintain the family bonds :)

we eat at our kitchen counter, just us kids, my parents eat in their bedroom... sometimes we eat in our rooms, too... bad habit, i know... we sit together as a family for holidays though... then again, we generally don't have real meals, maybe something out of a box, a one pot type of thing... sometimes when my mom, sister, or i am in a good mood, we will cook something from scratch, with sides and all...

We always eat at the dining room table. Since I became a fulltime housewife I cook almost all the meals now except for 2 nights a week (pizza night and burger night). We only eat chips or popcorn in the livingroom while watching TV. If I'm home alone during the day I might bring my sandwich in to the living room tho :p just don't tell my daughter :)

I don't usually eat, though when I do, it's usually at the computer or at the table with the family as I sit in silence and they all discuss things with the T.V. on. lol.

Hey that way if you drop anything you have your mobile furry vacuum cleaners to take care of it for you :)

The dogs have learned that when I am cooking, if they quietly sneak up behind me and lay down, I will step back and trip over them, and then they have a free- for- all! While I am busy telling them off for it, the cats sneak up and clean up whatever didn't drop. It's a conspiracy! Good thing the birds and lizards don't get loose.

Since we are a blended family, we really go out of our way to do family bonding things. We all sit around the table (picnic in the summer, dinner in the winter) between 7:30 and 8:30 even if some of us aren't eating.(I won't force the kids to eat, their bodies know how much food they need, but they ARE part of the family and are required to hang out) We gather to be a family.
Very occasionally we have "movie night" and watch TV in the livingroom, but since we don't have cable or TV reception where we live, its darned rare. Wensday night is the only night we break up, for "Chick Night" and "Dude Night" My husband takes his son out to band practice with him, and my daughter and I make popcorn and generally graze, do our toe nails and watch movies or play games.
My husband's former wife never cooked, even for special occasions,so we go WAY the other way. In all our homes we've have a little bar in the kitchen for family and freinds to sit at and visit while Rob and I tag team cook.
The kids work on setting the table, peeling vegies or just sit at the bar and talk. It is essential to keeping our family communicating.
On weekends we have "Family Dinner Night" which means extended family comes, and we make a big deal with appitizers and desert, the kids LOVE it, and they agree their family culture is a rarity, but that its nice.
On Saterday morning, my husband and I roll out of bed early and I bake bread, my husband cranks up the Rolling Stones and fries up bacon and eggs.. it gets everyone out of bed at a reasonable hour and talking about how we want to tackle the weekend work and entertainment desires with three kids, and random house guests with our one car.

It's the rule in our house that all home cooked meals are eaten at the table as as family. The only meals eaten on the couch in front of the tv are pizza or chinese take out...or any other take out we happen to get. It's usually about once a week, though, cuz I don't like to cook on weekends.

Depends.
Sometimes, if it's just me and my daughter, because Hubby's working late (restaurant managers do not get to pick their hours, or have a steady schedule, makes it hard to plan anything), we will eat in front of the television, or a movie.
Sometimes the three of us have pizza while watching a movie, or some other take out, just to sit around and chill.
But, we do have dinner at the dinner table, if I've cooked a real meal. Now, sometimes we like to picnic in our backyard with burgers, but more often than not, I cook dinner, and we eat at the table. Even if it's just me and my daughter, we'll eat at the table.
