Hematite doesn't bother me at all, but I've heard other people say that it gives them a headache or else makes them feel tired.

yep hematite doesnt lave anyone indefferent much
either people love and adore it, or they have very bad experience with it.
it is a very strong stone, and thus often too much for people, especially when its not its time
we have had several threads about this phenomena in this forum, guess its in the archives now

I am very attracted to hematite however it just those darned head aches I cant handle. There is a shop where I live that has huge book end made of hematite and they are so beautiful but I walk in the store and I feel like I have been bashed on the head with a hammer. So I am not glad to see this happens to other but releaved that I am not weird yet again.

I've seen this myself more than once. I have a loverly set of hand-painted (by my own hand) runes made of small hematite stones. When I'm doing readings with them I always ask the client if they are able to handle hematite before I pour the runes into their hands.

Its just wierd to me because this has never or at least not yet happened with any other stone. I love working with crystals and stones and it just makes me think...and then the burning comes out my ears like I am a cartoon cause I just haven no answers lol.

Hmmm, hematite is a very grounding stone. Do you have any trouble grounding yourself, connecting to the earth energies?

That's very weird. I can't say I've had that problem. But, maybe I did and just didn't relate it to the hematite. Very odd. I'm going to have to watch for that.

As an alternative grounding stone you might try snowflake obsidian which works well for me. Carnelian and smokey quartz are also good.

Ya, I wondered if there might not be a connection. Not sure what it is exactly, or why. *sits back and ponders* Might be 'cause your root chakra isn't open far enough and your crown chakra is too wide open? I think mine are about the opposite of that most of the time. ;)

Oh I have no doubt about the root chakra has problems to put it a nice way lol. The connection is worth pondering. Cant believe I didnt catch that....

:) It was fresh in my mind because I just finished a two evening chakra class last Saturday. I know that if one chakra is inactive, another chakra may be too active as compensation. Balancing the other chakras, even if you can't get the inactive chakra to work well, still helps to even out the imbalance.

As for my root...I keep working. And working. And working lol. Yep I fear I may always be ran by the top three chakras.

Do you have a problem with other iron based stones. I thankfully have no problem with hemetite. Sad to have a problem. It is such a lovely stone. So soothing.

There is the puzzle I have never had any kind of bad reaction to any other kind of stone ever.

try grounding through agate.
even the blue dyed agate (http://de.msnusers.com/czechwoodsgems/agate2dyedachat2.msnw) could be a great help in this, as it connects to the 6th chakra, which you said you are run by a lot.
so maybe this will help you to get grounded again.
also try falcons eye (http://de.msnusers.com/czechwoodsgems/falconeyefalkenauge.msnw)
another thing: maybe you could try getting a small hematite stone, and a larger white agate ( aka peace agate) (http://de.msnusers.com/czechwoodsgems/achatagate5weisswhite.msnw) to balance out the side effects of headache.
i could imagine what happens in your case is the following:
the hematite enters through your sleeping root chakra and immediately goes where its strength is used actively.... like a kind of energy cell for your 3 top chakras...., which of course causes an overload of energy.
you should therefore use the hematite with a stone that will help the hematite to stay where it is needed; in the sleeping root chakra to awaken it.
as not to get headaches though, you must also take that into consideration when choosing the stones, therefore the agates: white or blue dyed would help, or the dyed/burned red ones.

Ah, interesting stuff, Czech. I was trying to think of something to help open the first chakra, that sounds like a good idea with the stones. I don't know that I've ever seen white agate before.

White agate mostly comes from India, secondly also from Brazil. I have also seen German white agates, and assume they can come from many other places too, but those will always be considered very special and will come rather rough/ polished than tumbled (read: more expensive too)

oh, that's insane! i made myself a hematite/tigers eye necklace last week... and on the days i've worn it... i've had the most AWFUL headaches that medicine couldn't take away. i just blamed it on sinuses though... but weirdly, the headaches are completely gone when i don't wear it (like right now). Although i DO have it sitting right next to me. Is there anything you could do about this? it's a really pretty necklace.

Hiya,
Someone just recommended citrine to me in another crystals thread if I find hematite too strong. I'm yet to try it but I have some arriving soon.
I find that when i first pick up hematite it makes me feel heavy and kind of off balance. Then I get strange sensations in weak parts of my body - as if it's mending me! After a little while all the heaviness and sensations go and I'm left feeling lots better. So maybe hematite is trying to work on you but it's a bit too severe all at once. There must be something to calm it down wiht?? Or try using something lighter first (maybe citrine) then try hematite again another time when you're further along with your healing?
That said, when I first tried wearing amethyst, which I'm also extremely drawn to, it gave me a huge, pressing headache! So I took it off and the headache went. I tried it again a few more times on other occasions - same result. Then I tried it another day and perservered... the headache lasted all day, but the positive results of the crystal were really worth it. I got so much calm from wearing the amethyst (despite the headache) and rational thoughts entering my head that I kept on trying that day. By the next day my headache had cleared and I can now where amethyst without a headache!! It was almost as if I needed to clear some kind of blockage!
Now this might not be good advice to give, in case it's dangerous, but it worked for me :D

I know I'm probably responding really late to this thread, but I thought I'd share my feelings about hematite. And please do be careful if you're going to carry one and you have adverse reactions to it.
I an sure it cannot be just me but I have to ask. I go near hematite and I get the biggest hugest head aches ever! I cannot where the jewelry it all breaks and disapears... Is this just me? Has anyone had any similar expierances?
I carry a hematite where ever I go. I have also given it as a gift for a friend that felt disconnected from herself and others and who was planning to move away. I knew she was worried and didn't feel like she would succeed and didn't feel she could make friends. I gave it to her with the intentions of helping her ground and help her balance the changes and upheavel that was to come.
When she contacted me after the move, she thanked me and said she felt it had really helped her. She said she didn't feel as high-strung as she thought she would be and usually is. She had found a job quickly and had met some people at the new college she was attending. She never mentioned headaches.
Personally, I feel hematite calms and centers me and I don't feel rushed and I make more well-rounded decisions than I used to, when I carry one. It is one of my favorite stones. I noticed someone mentioned in another thread that it was too powerful for them, I don't get that feeling at all and I have several around the house.

Now that you mention it, for some reason I stay away from hematite also. I seem to always lose it when I put it in my pocket etc. I feel much better with snowflake obsidian also. Maybe its just the mercury in the hematite.

Lunacie is right on! If you had your chakras balanced , it would be easier for you to ground yourself and you would not be having the reaction to hematite that you feel now. I have had this happen before with my root chakra and had similar experiences during that time.

I know somewhere in here I posted but.....Hemetite is full of iron and some people seem to react badly to anything containing iron. Many can't hold or wear iron based stones. So this may be the problem. However a good chakra balancing is never a bad thing. Come to think of it I really need mine done. I was told recently my throat chakra is badly blocked. Could be all are in such a bad state. But I digress. Just be care of anything that is iron based hun. Some people just can't use hemetite. It is no big thing really. :hugz:

Yep... I've never gotten that calming feeling from hematite, it always buzzes me up, and I get a headache with prolonged contact (like, morethan a few seconds)...
BTW, my chakras are usually pretty good... http://bestsmileys.com/dancing/14.gif

You wore it for a whole day? Ouch. Maybe it's like breaking in a new pair of shoes, you wear them for an hour or so and then put on your old shoes for the rest of the day and gradually you get more comfortable wearing the new ones? Start off with just a few minutes while you're doing something else, and each day wear it for just that few minutes. Then the next week you can wear it twice as long... like that.

I agree with Lunacie. Usually you try not to force yourself on a crystal. Go gradually. I did that with a lapis. I said it many times in past posts.

I have decided that after many many headaches that I will just give up. I will seek out and find a nice stone that I can play nice with. any surgestions for a replacement to the iron based headache inducer?
