For a long while, I've called myself agnostic, because it's easier than explaining my belief system to people who believe only in christians and sinners. Then when I was browsing last night while I was unable to fall asleep, I saw "An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will" and that it was a part of the Wiccan Rede. As it seemed like that was a good summation of my personal ethics/morals, I did a search on it, and wound up here.
When i was a little girl, about 5 or so, I remember having a story read to me out of the magazine of fantasy and science fiction around Christmas. A little boy was celebrating Christmas with his family by decorating a christmas tree with them. He was still young enough to believe in mythical creatures, and befriends the tree's nymph and spends her last few days trying to save her. Sadly, I no longer have that issue or even know what one it was. But, that story stuck with me for over 15 years and was the first Christmas Story I'd heard that wasn't about Jesus or Santa.
I was not raised as anything. Church was more of a thing I did when I spent Saturday night at a friend's house. I tried hard to find God when I was younger, after being taken to a Hell's Gate show (where elementary/jr high kids are scared into believing). It just never felt right for me, especially once I hit high school. But I didn't know of any alternatives really, besides Catholicism (Yeah, I'm a small town girl :) ). The religion at my parents' house was based around "What will the neighbors think?" and that doesn't feel right to me either.
I'm not really sure where to start looking to find where my path begins. I saw on another thread that someone mentioned looking at the gods and goddesses of your ancestors, but the encyclopedia I use for such things ( http://www.pantheon.org ) appears to be down. I am mostly of scotch-irish descent with a little bit of peruvian (sp?) thrown in.
I would appreciate any suggestions anyone might have for me :). Thank you.
