i love two tone stones
like labradorite, ametrine
etc

so i go for colour and shape and look as much as i do for the feeling in my hand
if the colours right and the feeling isnt then its a nono

Feeling, heat coming off of it, colour not so much. It has to feel alive to me. I need to really feel it vibrating in my hand and feel how much heat it is giving off. If it does not feel right...I pass it up.

With me I'd say it was a case of all the options avaliable. Initialy I'm drawn to a type of stone by its look colour and then I wait until one of the stones in the group draws my hand to it, through my hand feeling either heat being given off or a pulsating sensation. Once if picked it up and something doesn't feel right the stone gets put back and I go back to my friend's workshop on a different day.

I've managed to aquire a large number of differnt crystals and such that way the pride and joys of my collection have to be my heart shaped lump of opalite, my rainbow obsidian sphere and my angelite egg.

I choose my stones by how they feel to me. Intuition has yet to steer me wrong.

I'll go for stones I know more about, but a couple of times i've picked up things that I just thought felt right. I've used most of them. DH always picks his based on look and feeling.

I run my hand around and over the stones and pick the one that feels right to me. I always get a tingle/warm sensation in my hand and up my arm when it's the right one. If I don't feel it.....then it's a no no for me!

It's the funniest thing about stones. Sometimes I'll go into a store looking for a specific stone and I'll keep going back to one or two stones I see instead. I'll buy the stones, go home, look them up on Google and find out they're exactly what I need.

I hold them in my hands and buy whichever ones give me a good, sort of healing impression. Occasionally, I'll buy one based on appearance if it's really striking.

I let my stones choose me....I look at them and pick whichever stands out to me....sometimes it's the prettiest and sometimes it's deformed!

Just recently I started buying stones. "Cuddle stones" they are called. I like them the most, because you can hold them so easily.

My first stone/crystal was a green stone (Don't know the English name), for psoriasis. That stone really worked, although the shopkeeper was not so happy with the way I bought it. I just took the stone I wanted. She said that it is beter not to say why you need a perticular stone. Just take a stone, keep it in your hand and if it feels good, it's your stone.

I did it that way just yesterday. I was feeling misserable, so I really wanted something to cheer me up. Bought some cards (Love May Brown) and went on to the stones. This time I let the stones choose me. First of all, I couldn't let an agate go. A beautiful blue stone, with thin white lines. Suddenly a grabbed another stone, a snowflake obsidian.
Afterwards, that same shopkeeper told me what the stones "had to say". I was shocked... Both stones present something I really need. So, the trick really works...

A mixture of all the options in the poll, colour, markings, feel and look...
Sometimes I look a new stone up in a book and make it my weekend mission to go and find one somewhere.

I choose all my stones, crystals, minerals, etc., by the look, color, and most importantly the feel of it as I hold it. I consider it's looks because not only do I practice gemstone and crystal magick I also collect all manners of gemstones, crystals, and minerals and display them all over my home. Color is important for not only displaying my collections but color can play a huge part in magick. Because my main focus is magick I take into consideration how the stone feels to me personally as I hold it.

If I can feel and connect to their energy, they they can't be a bad choice.

When I first began buying stones, and I wasn't able to feel the subtle energies, I would just pick one that 'stood out', or was appealing over the rest. If that didn't happen, I didn't purchase.

I also let the stones choose me. I hold my left hand just above and pass it over the stones. When I feel a "pull" in the center of my palm, I purchase that stone. Then if I don't know that particular stone's properties I'll research ...

More often than naught, it ends up that I've found exactly what I need.

I choose by feel, color, and pattern.

Sometimes, one might draw my attention and feel nice, but then I find one that's the same type that suits me better. The way I view it, it's like when a friend tries calling out to you but you didn't hear them... so someone who's with them calls your name louder so you look and see your friend (who initially tried getting your attention).

At time, the first one I touch is just right in pattern and color. Sometimes, it's not, but the one below it is. I rarely buy a stone (or pick one up to keep from the ground) that doesn't fit all three criteria. Doesn't mean the stone is 'beautiful', just that it suits my taste in it's own unique way.

Definitely and always by feel. Knowing properties and uses is nice, but if a stone feels right, I will pick it up and research it later.

i had to choose the 'if one isn't right, its a no no' ... even a gift ... i find i pass those one quickly ... i'm a good foster parent. i don't believe in too many stones as clutter and such and the flow of the energy ... i would rather have a couple of powerhouse stones in the house i work with and like and want to have around ... the rest of them can play in the front or back yard gardens!!! ... here in vegas, our gardens are all rocks anyway, so they have loads and loads of fun!
