View Full Version : Wedding Vows...?

Okay, Rhyce and I have planned to write our own wedding vows. Apparently Rhyce has all but planned his.

I on the other hand, really have no idea where to begin. I suck at doing these kind of things, and have a worse time expressing myself, let alone in front of 100 guests. So you can imagine how much fun I'm going to have on the day.

The wedding, as of tonight is 5 months, 1 week and 6 days away.

I was wondering if anybody would have any ideas of inspiration or tidbits which could help me out. It would be much appreciated.

Well...do you want something orignal or something from the heart??? Have you tried doing a search for wedding vows for inspiration?? Another thing is write out what you plegde or promise to offer him during your life together..write how he makes you feel when you look at him, think of him, kiss him...other wise you could be funny and make him go first and your vow could be just Ditto..what he said!! hehe

You might do a search on "Love quotes" and "inspirational quotes". For inspiration of course. :)

Also, you can look at various handfasting/wedding vows, and alter them to suit what you want to say. That's often easier than writing everything off the top of your head. :)

If you play music, you could do it in song like Uncle Jesse on Full House. He always inspired me. Ahhh, what a dream boat.

James and I wrote our own vows.... we didn't speak them seperately, though....we each spoke one line, back and forth.

For example.... I would say:

I promise to always stand by you and be there for you, no matter where life takes you

Then he'd say:

I promise to always support you and follow you to your dreams.

Then I say:

I will always be your shoulder and your rock

Then he'd say:

I will always try to make you laugh through your tears.

etc. etc.

We each had about 8 promises, or so...that vaguely supported each other's promise. Then the very last line we said exactly the same, which was something like:

"I will love you always, my best friend, my lover, my husband/wife."

(this is just an approximation...I was gonna write out our entire vows, but I can't find them at the moment. :))

Anyway, we decided to do it this way so that we were writing them together...it was much easier than to come up with something seperately, and it seemed more meaningful if they were shared.

That's just an idea you might like. :)

Thanks for the ideas. I like the idea of making him go first and then just saying "yeah what he said" but if I did that I'd probably never hear the end of it. I'm still getting picked on by his family for being quiet.
I think I'll hit google.com and see what I come up with.

Ruby we used the apache wedding prayer in part of ours
Now you will feel no rain,
For each of you will be shelter to the other.
Now you will feel no cold,
For each of you will be warmth to the other.
Now there is no more loneliness,
For each of you will be companion to the other.
Now you are two bodies,
But there is one life before you. Go now to your dwelling place,
To enter into the days of your togetherness.
And may your days be good and long upon the earth.
~ Apache Wedding Prayer Blessing

good luck with the search

I've written and rejected 3 different sets of vows. Being a writer is actually proving a huge hindrance - everything I've written so far sounds pretty but is pretty short on substance.

Ffft. I'll get it eventually.

And by "eventually," I mean in the next 8 days.
