"Year" (solar year), reward, fruition.
Precious stone or crystal- Moss agate
Literally means "year" ( a fruitfull one), this rune represents sowing and reaping, birth death and rebirth, and the rewards or penaltys for ones actions (law). It is a Rune of awareness and patience...
I did a drawing at the end of last year in question of what this year will hold for me and one of the Runes I drew was Jera. Im stoked to say the least! Its about time I came across a year that will be fuitfull.
Ummm... I dont know about you guys but Im way looking forward to reading Rick's interp. of this one... uhh umm..... :D

Jera (YEE' ra, though most of us Okies say Jerra, like Jerry, & that's OK, too :) )- year, harvest; phonetic value = J or Y; color- green, brown (think earth tones); polarity- male & female (personally, I lean toward female, here); Deities- the Vanir; Baldur & Hodur; Jorda (sometimes called Gerd, or Gerda), the Earth, mother of Thor; Frigga in her aspect as Earh Mother

Jera represents the Earth Wheel, or Year Wheel. The shape is suggestive of the year divided in half (reminds me of geese flying north & south), & can be used in readings as a measure of time
(0-6mos, 6mos-1yr). It also indicates that the wheel of time turns slowly but inexorably; things may not happen as quickly as you want, but usually happen more quickly than you think they will. Jera is also the harvest. This can be bountiful, or scanty, depending on exactly what you've sown (in the past), & how well you've tended your crop.

Jera is also the embodiment of the Earth.

In magical workings, Jera can be used to speed up or slow down a working, or to bring the strength & power of the Earth to the working.

Jera, Jara, Årsväxtrunan (in swedish which sort of translates into something like year growth rune... )

Stands for: growth, wheel of time, time passing, year, rythm of life, seasons... It stands for harvest and the work that comes with harvest. Panting and sowing, waiting, being patient, harvesting...
Sometimes Jara tells us "that you'll harvest what you sow" as we say in Sweden. It therefor represent the law of karma.
Some also look at jara as a rune that can be associated with Yin and Yang.
It is also a rune for fertility.

Wear this rune when you wish to get in touch with the universe and the earth, the seasons and life. It is also a rune to wear if you are looking to get pregnant.

Jara is sometimes associated with the tarot card Wheel of life.

I love what you have all said about this rune! It is a very happy fertile one! :)

To me it means growth throughout time, a year a seasonal harvest, a tree growing from a little seed. It stands for the rythumn and movement of time, or things growing in the earth, evolution and growth.
Its a wheel of change rune (and can be said to be the Wheel of Fortune like in Tarot) but a very positive one and often is used to speed time up in magick.
It is the rune of Frey & Freya to me.

yep. . . jera is one of the less complex runes--all its aspects fall under cyclic growth, things coming to fruition, slow but steady forward progress, although in workings of woe it can be used in a downward spiral way to backtrack things.

i most often associate it with personal spiritual cycles--if you put in the time and energy, sooner or later things will move and click into place, and you just gotta trust the process. each cycle builds on one another, so even if you come back to the same place, you're on the next tier, so to speak, of the spiral. to me it is a very comforting rune; it holds my head and assures me, when i am weary and feeling stuck and without results, that its just a temporary thing and soon i will turn the corner

*laughs* i also get the geese flock association. . . as well as the rune being composed of two Kenaz's, which to me suggests that there is a constant unmaking and remaking involved, destruction and regeneration, and that wonderful harvests come from dedicated work. this rune concerns your whole life--do your best.

usually i tend to disagree with stone associations, but in this case, moss agate is a wonderful stone for jera, as well as purple fluorite. other stones like malachite and amethyst work too, but then they work for many things.

do you disagree with stone associations???

to make my statement a bit more clear, i definitely don't disagree with stone associations to runes. i just disagree with some specific ones. . . stones and crystals have always been my primary thingie (ya know like some people are hardcore into herbs) and so i have my own ideas about what stones work with what runes. . . sometimes it contradicts traditional associations. my runic and crystal work are personally unique and so i gotta mesh the two in the same manner, if that makes sense.

I've often read about different trees associated with runes but have not seen anything much about stones. Would you be able to share a list?

Along with Isa and Eihwaz, Jera corresponds to the festival of Yule (midwinter). Isa represents the frost giants. Jera is the turning point of the year, symbolizing the return of the sun or Baldur and the lengthening of the days. Eihwaz represents Yggdrasil, the evergreen tree, which maintains the appearance of life throughout the winter. The Christmas tree is a remnant of this belief. The hailing of the returning sun could be symbolically enacted in a ritual involving these runes.

Jera is also the Rune of just deserts. That which goes around comes around. It can be a
Rune of retribution in some instances if the querant uses it for that purpose. Jera inevitably
returns to its sender, a blessing for a blessing and a curse for a curse.
