View Full Version : How has the Tarot affected your life?

I got to thinking the other day about how the Tarot has become a very important part of my life. I was holding my favorite deck and looking through the familiar images and I realized that this deck is like a best friend to me.
It gives me advice when I need it; it's always there for me no matter what time of day or night; it tells me off when I need to be told off (those who have a Thoth deck will know what I mean  ) and it never lets me down.
I couldn't imagine my life without the Tarot. The cards are a constant source of wisdom. I can look at a card a thousand times and each time I'll see something new in it. It's like having a conversation with a friend and discovering new and unexpected aspects of their personality.
So how has the Tarot influenced your life and your choices?

I absolutely agree. :)
The other thing Tarot has done for me is introduce me to a pagan path. It was through tarot that I became interested in archetypal images and then in the God/dess, which led me to buy a copy of "Wicca for the Solitary Practioner".
It has also influenced the way I look at the world. How often do you say to your self, "This is a *insert card name here* moment!"? :D

Tarot's helped me face parts of myself that I don't like. When I'm sitting around, twiddling my thumbs, I pull out a deck and shuffle because I can't stand idle hands. And, like you said, Temptation, it gives me advice.

A best friend. I couldn't agree more. That's what my deck is for me too.
It's also given me the opportunity to help other people. When I read for them and they come back and tell me how much my reading has had a positive impact on their life, I feel like I've done something worthwhile.

Yes! Absolutely. :) I do that too. And also with people, I always try and figure out what Court card their personality matches the best. It helps me understand and accept people for what they are.

That's an aspect of the Tarot I love as well. Helping people sort out their problems through my readings. It's really nice when what I see in the cards steers them in the right direction when they're at a loss as to what to do.
Also my ability to read for myself has helped me in my own choices as well.

I was doing a reading the other day for this friend of mine and I thought about this thread. I told him at the end of the reading that the outcome is not set in stone, that he can change it by making different choices.
I realised that this is another thing the Tarot has taught me. The future is what we make it. We are in charge of our own destiny.
It's pretty cool and pretty scary at the same time. :)

You guys said it well. :)
It feels weird not to have a deck near to hand sometimes.
And the Thoth deck should come with a warning label:
"Warning: This deck does not care what you want to hear. Ego injury will occur."

LOL
Too true about the Thoth!
I now have the gentler Tarot of Dreams by Ciro Marchetti to balance out the "in your face" attitude of the Thoth. Some days, you just don't want to hear it like it is, you know what I'm saying?
Hey, there's another thing I love about the Tarot. The fact that every deck has a personlity of its own. It's always a suprise for me to look through a deck for the first time and feel the unique energy it sends out.

This is a great thread! :)
I am still a dabbler when it comes to the Tarot, so I cannot say that it has really changed my life so far. I now have the basics down but I have not taken it to the next stage yet, when it becomes a favourite tool then a friend like you guys said.
But I can say that back when I was still on the fence about my spirituality, it is the Tarot that first introduced me to the Pagan ways and made the transition from atheism to spirituality smoother for me :)

I have the Tarot of Dreams too. It's a great deck. So totally different from the Thoth. It still tells it like it is, but in a much more, shall we say, diplomatic way?

This is so true.
The idea that the future is not yet written is very comforting to me. The Tarot has helped me not be too fatalistic about things.
