This is slightly inspired by Neil Gaiman's book... but so many lands and heritages and cultures have gods and goddesses and mythologies, what about America as a nation? Do you think there are any God/Goddess mythologies beyond the pre-existing Native American and immigrated Christian faiths? Do you think that eventually a mythology will evolve to develop like Neil Gaiman's book, where we have Cell phone and Computer gods?
I'd love to hear your thoughts!

I would assume that you are already acquainted with the Goddesses Caffeina and Nicotina? ;)

I don't think America started out with its own gods. I think they followed their various people when they came to America as well as remaining in their homeland. Their gods I suposse they can be in two places at once or at least keep an eye on both. I wonder if they'll will be new gods that come from America later on but right now we're still to new as a nation to have any of our own gods.

Well, I'm not sure if I have an answer for that, but I do have to pipe in and say that I LOVE American Gods, and Niel Gaiman is my favorite author. Maybe since he moved over here, he could be the next one....lol. God of Authors and sexy eyes.---shuvanilu

Personally, I pray to the Traffic Gods for open lanes, green lights and good parking spots.

I've never read the book, but i'd like to get it (what's it about?), i'm not sure if America has it's own gods, apart from the Native American ones, i think some of the gods and supernatural beings of Europe (and the Middle East and Asia) may have come over to America, (especially Yahweh, i've heard that in Haiwaiian myths or something, that the Haiwaiian gods made way for Yahweh in some way, anyone know how?).
Maybe there are gods that are just starting to get influence on this world/plane/realm.
Like Semicivilizedman said, Cthulhu may be one.
Although Theres may be right and $$ is the god (of all people, lol).

I can't tell you a lot about the book without a BIG spoiler regarding one of the main characters, but based on a few of your posts, I think you'd like it. Cryptic enough for you?

General Curtiss LeMay ---> Apocalypse God
I really think that should be either Robert Oppenheimer, Edward Teller, or General Leslie Groves. Hmmm. Maybe they are aspects of a triple god?

I drove by the Statue of Liberty this morning. She gets a lot of visitors. I think Liberty is an American Goddess, welcoming the hungry masses.
And then there's Lady Justice. Ashcroft didn't believe in her and covered her up...
Then there is the Deist Creator of the Founding Father's.

Naw. Those guys were just engineers.
Curtiss Lemay was positively DROOLING to drop nuclear bombs. He even DEMANDED that Ike give him 25 "discretionary" bombs.
Ike told him where to get off, of course.
