Here's a very very simple outline for creating a spell...
1 Define the goal of the spell or ritual
2 Decide when and where to work your magick, looking at day and moon correspondances
3 Find or create an appropriate chant for your ritual
4 Plan how you will visualize your goal in your mind
5 Decide on any correspondances to include in your spell
You can then incorperate all these things together, and add in anything more you feel appropriate. Hope this helps! :)

I still say its the energy and intent thats most important, and not how you express it. IMO, a spell can be anything from something made from that outline, to a two line chant repeated over and over to raise energy for the intent defined by the chant.

And it doesn't have to rhyme, either! :)

Candles can be used as a correspondence in your spell. You can use the colours of the candles to enhance your objectives. Also, you can carve symbols & runes into the wax itself. As well, annoint the candle with a corresponding oil. Candles work great to help focus your intent. Such as lighting the candle at the start of your working. You can blow out the candle to signify the completion of the spell or let it burn itself out to send out your magic energies.
Have you looked through the Magicks & Rituals forum for more info on spells?

Depends. Kind of personal preference. I've blown out many a candle and had the spell work just as well. Haven't found a nice candle snuffer :( Just don't blow too hard, as my bf who found himself splashed in the face with wax and ash last nite will attest

Well actually, blowing out a candle as you visualize sending off it's magickal energy into working, can be very efficient :)
Like if it is a spell for healing, or love or something like that, it can be very efficient to blow it out, cause that would sort of get the magickal energy moving... at least IMHO :)

To Rick :nyah:
:p
Seriously, that's why I blow out the candles in some workings. It really depends on what I want to achieve.

think symbolism, such as color, signs, placement, order. I find anything natural is great for use as a medium, one of the most important things to keep in mind is your personal associations have more to do with anything being concrete. It's not like writing a program in other words :)
and as Lisa is always trying to tell me, "detail is everything"

Some of the most powerful spells I've done have been very simple. This may not work for everyone but I just sit in front of my altar (with no more preparation than a goal in mind) and work from there. I state my purpose and just improvise. I usually light candles, sometimes chant for a while, and talk to the deities casually to ask them for the best possible outcome. When I'm done I just thank the deities and snuff out the candles. I dont blow them out. (See? Rick isnt alone! hehe) Thats about it. I never do pre-made spells. Possibly because I'm lazy, but mostly because it doesnt mean as much to me.
