Question: Psychic Vampires

What exactly are they?

They are people who 'feed' off of your 'energy', in other words co-dependant people who tend to 'drain' you of your vitality. You know that annoying 'friend' who is always there when you are at your best and she is at her worst making you both misrable or that boss that takes all the fun out of everything. They generally consider you to be more like a drug than a person, coming around when they need a fix. When you or their other sources withdraw their life falls apart because they dont have the ability to do anything without 'your help', IMO any way. Others say they are actual vampires who want to suck your energy so you should cross your legs and arms and try to avoid eye contact and never hop into bed with them (insert smart ass comment of your choice here). I personally dont think that that is the case, they are just idiots who like to ruin a good time wth their vampiric needs and wants IMO.

To me an empath is one who feels the energy of others, without the need to "steal" it to do so. I maybe wrong...

An empath senses emotions and energies, but doesn't steal energy, which a psychic vampire does (intentionally or unintentionally).

vampires feed off others taking from them, empaths share the emotions with those who are feeling them.

An empath can walk into a room of people and go into a whirl wind of emotion so to keep from having mood swings the shield is needed.

well for me.... I have always been very sensitive to picking up on other peoples energy and feelings and can find it VERY draining. I was very happy to learn there was a term for it and not that I was crazy!:)

I find that if I go to a funeral like as a suppport person, and not as the grieving person. Without protection I become so overwhelmed I have literally fainted.

It is like I am consumed with grief and emotion.
Yet when my grandather died and I took time to surround myself and work on "my space" I did fine. Heck I did great we laughed, we cried, but I NEVER once lost my peace of mind.

I think it's all a matter of predator and prey. Life requires life in order to sustain itself, does that mean that if we eat vegetables we're vegan-vampires? It makes me think of a parasitic versus a symbiotic relationship, and maybe that's the only choice, eh? Makes you think about a lot of things (at least for me)

Ok but vampires aren't just predators who kill prey. In the case of blood feeders they often have people who are drawn to them inexplicably and who they feed off of on a regular basis. They begin to "own" the person as well as feeding off them which is a bit different then just eating something. The same is true of psychic vampires. They can become linked to you and cause mental and physical problems.

If I may ramble in order to achieve my point....
Three or four years ago, i began my desperate struggle with the fact that organized religeons are too often a mask for those participating; this is when I learned that by finding a person whose energy flow had become clogged, and gleaning their energy for my consumption, I could remove their clogs. This did not result in anything detrimental for either party, except that after 3 or 4 months of this, the person learned how to become what they really wanted, and that was the last I saw of them (this has been a bit detrimental for me, in the short term). Any, my point is that 'psychic vampiricism' is but a tool, and tools are neither good nor evil, but obedient to the will of the weilder.

I think the trick is, you learned how to use it for a good thing. My best friend is an energy vampire, but she doesn't know it, and can't control it. I love her dearly, but I have to watch myself, or I'm drained to a very bad point when I spend time with her. Luckily, neither of her daughters inherited it, or if they did, they aren't showing signs yet.

vampires are considered not dead, but undead, which is why they feed off blood (the symbol for life) in order to sustain their own past it's time.

I think the argument of yes and no for this is pretty deep though. It's a matter of whether spiritual energy is like blood, something that is tangible and can be manipulated like lines of code in a computer program, or whether it's a more inherant matrix which everybody taps into, and those who can be considered "empaths" are connected to it in a more personal way. The fear is more inherant in those who struggle for control, I figure; it's scary when they can't hide and manipulate things to fit their own interests and goals

Like I said though, it comes down to symbiance and parasites; there's a small difference.

I recommend the book Insomnia by Stephen King, it gets into this subject a few times, I read it in two or three sittings actually (which is rare for me). There's this part when the guy finds that by gazing at things he can draw energy from them, and wonders if he's being a vampire or something, and the spirit doctor guy explains that it's like grains of sand on a beach, like a drop of water from the ocean; that it's not so personal of a thing. I think when people are used to manipulating it so much, and have mastered it so well, the control itself takes on a life of its own (self-preservation and such..).
