I saw in a horoscope reading that 'the moon is void of course until it enters Pisces (or some other sign, can't remember exactly). What does this mean?

Yes, someone please help with this one. I've seen Silver Ravenwolf use this in her books alot - and she explains it - and I still don't get it. I have looked in the magickal almanac and don't see anything in there either. What does this mean and how do we figure out when it occurs?

ok this is what silver says in her Teen Witch Kit:

The moon passes through the 12 signs of the zodiac as it makes it's 28 day journey around the Earth, spending a couple days in each sign. When it passes out of one sign, just before it enters the next, this stage is called a Void Moon. It takes place every few days and lasts between a few seconds and a couple of days. ...

About the only way you are going to know when teh moon is Void of Course is if you use a magical almanac, suscribe to a monthly horoscope or can find a computer program that tracks moon voids.

Hope that helps

Thanks! Every few days!? Silver says that you shouldn't do anything when the moon is void of course. Amazing that any of my spells have worked!

Yup happens a lot. Get the lunabar software from http://clysmic.com/lunabar/ and accompanying void of course table - it puts the icon in your sys tray then you can see easily and quickly where the moon is.

The reason she suggests you don't do magic then is because it is between signs and therefore thought to be a "place beyond us" - basically a mysterious place we don't understand and that can't be a good correspondence (unless you're doing a spell for being confused and lost I suppose).

Aha! So that explains this feeling of being dazed and confused:woah:

If you want to get /really/ technical about it...
the moon is void of course after it has made its last aspect to another planet before switching signs...not just /whenever/ its between signs. :D

One can do spellwork when the moon is void of course, but should keep in mind what it is that one is looking to achieve.

If you are doing your tax returns and you dont want to be audited, complete and snail mail/email them in with some mojo to ensure you won't get audited.

If you are calling back that old boyfriend still interested in you that you foolishly promised you'd get back to, but no longer are interested in, give him a ring when the moon is void of course.

SRW is just a witch, like any other witch
a witch just like you or I
and sometimes what an author writes, doesn't work for you the way it may for them

When reading any author, keep your objectivity
keep a record of what astrologically and magickally works or doesn't work for you

Litha - what a lovely name you chose.

I personally have not paid much attention to the astrological correspondences - shame on me - and my spells have always been successful. I usually go by the moon cycles and sometimes the days of the week.

Thanks for the tips - I started my own business last year and I will use that one for the IRS!

thanks Freyja, I find your name lovely as well :loveduv:

I have been drawn to the solstices and equinoxes for as long as I can remember.

I recall with great affection the Norse tales I read in my youth, especially the story of the Nordic goddess, Iduna, who on spring equinox (or more specifically, since we are talking about time here, March 19th) appeared as a swallow to herald the arrival of spring.

She personified Spring and was wife to Bragi, god of poetry.
The Norns guarded a tree of magical apples which granted eternal youth and immortality, and only allowed Idun to pick the fruit. She kept these wonderful apples in a casket and gave the gods a daily taste to keep them young and beautiful. No matter how many were eaten, the number in the casket remained the same.

Astrological correspondences is of personal interest affected by a lifelong sensitivity to the the quarters and the cross-quarters. I've found that workings not tied to celestial influences, but powered with intent and one's own personal mojo can most certainly affect outcome. I've also found that spellwork embued with planetary energies packs some real oomph! This again may be related to my own personal affinity to the stars. Your mileage may vary :)

Mazel Tov on your business venture!

Thanks, Litha. It's a little scary right now but I know that all is well. I know the story of Iduna and I have been trying to do an apple a day myself. I haven't been a very good girl!

You live in Short Hills! I was born in Jersey City. We lived in Summit for about five years. I went to high school in Sayreville (Jon Bon Jovi went to my HS a few years after I did) and have also lived in Middlesex and Edison, two of my boys were born there. I still have family around Keyport although we've lost touch. I believe they still own a thriving pizza business. I have fond memories of Jersey and want to go back someday.

I worked two jobs most of last year trying to get my business started (and still do, actually). I have little time for private ritual these days and most of my work is done at public Esbats and Sabbats and a New Moon ritual that I attend each month. When I do have time, my favorite work is a ritual bath - and I rarely check any correspondences at all when I do this! I always have positive results.

I buy a magickal almanac each year, and I'm even collecting the old ones for the wonderful little articles. I've been able to find a few in used bookstores. I do believe that the correspondences have an influence but agree that the intent is what matters. I have found, however, that the moon cycles really do make a big difference.

I lived in Keyport for about 5 years before moving to Short Hills.
Perhaps I've been in the pizza parlor your family has!
I've been South and West in our USA and still am drawn back to NY/NJ.

You are one busy lady; it sounds perfect for your spell working to be done in the bath!

Workings with pure need and intent powered by strength of will can go toe to toe with timing by astrological/vibrational correspondances. It's been my expereince that expression of need and desire can be so strong, results can be obtained even if no actual ritual has been enacted.

The universe is made of circles and cycles, double helixed DNA, sacred spirals...acting in accordance with the timing of nature is always an added bonus!

Lynne Palmer is an astrologer who puts out a very good annual almanac that is great to have at the onset of the year to follow along. Sarolta de Faltay-Bell is another astrologer; she works closely with moon cycles and also publishes a wonderful annual.

Thanks, I agree that spells can be set into motion from the moment they're being planned, and that you don't even have to do a formal ritual a good deal of the time. I also do a lot of good work just singing in the car - I drive alot. There's a state of consciousness I go into that's caused me to miss exits, etc. Funny that I've only had mishaps when I'm fully conscious......

The thing I miss most about Jersey is the beaches. Think of me next time you go!

The coast is one of the main draws to living in this area. The ocean soothes and heals. I'll send a blessing out next I go to all who are with me and the Mother in spirit.
Interestingly, being amidst the daily hustle and bustle of NYC is joyful as well. Even when in the busyness of LA, I missed the East Coast attitude. (although the sushi and most cofffehouses are better in the West)

I've lived in LA also, and nothing compares to the Mexican food there. What they serve in OK is tex-mex and it just doesn't come close. And that laid-back attitude is great.

Along with the beaches - I also miss good pizza! We have been fortunate, some guys from NY moved here and opened up a place in Tulsa. An old boyfriend took me there and told me it was real NY pizza - I said yeah, sure - and it was! But I still have to drive 30 miles to go get some.......and it's expensive but worth it.

nothing like a slice of NYC pizza
except maybe, according to my beau, a NYC frank
He and his crew call them dirty water dogs
...and he wonders why I won't eat one

It has been so very long since I've had one of those, I don't know if I'd even like 'em anymore!

hahaha,
well...anything edible composed of multisyllabic matter not naturally found in the organic world usually gets knocked off my "like" list:eyebrow:
