View Full Version : Reiki II attunement made me sick? Help!

Last night, I received my Reiki II attunement. I felt wonderful all through last night - until about 2 AM, when I woke up and realized that my stomach felt upset. I got up in the morning and tried to go about my daily business at college, but I couldn't eat without feeling ill, and my boss sent me home from work after classes. I've been in bed since, and over the day I've still had the stomachache, a lot of aches and pains (particularly in my back, the base of my skull, and my eyes), and I can tell that I have a higher-than-normal temperature. I've been wanting to just go ahead and throw up all day, but my body just doesn't want to throw up - instead, everything just hurts.
It's totally possible that I've picked up some weird stomach flu, but I'm wondering if its possible that my attunement affected me in a way that made my body react like this? Nothing like this happened two years ago when I got my Reiki I attunement, but our Reiki II class met for an introductory session two weeks ago, and after we did a lot of group healing in the class, I found that my knee hurt like crazy the next day for no reason at all, and by the day after that it felt almost completely better.
Does anyone know what the heck is going on with my body? I'm kind of freaked out and I'd like to know... maybe if I knew what was going on, I'd know what to do to make myself feel better. As it is, I'm pretty miserable...
Help, please? :sleepybed

I've been into Reiki for nearly six years. Not everyone has experiences like you're describing, but many people do. I've had places on and within my body start mysteriously hurting, only to stop hurting a day or two later. I've also had "problem areas" that previously did have injuries, or some kind of symptom, hurt badly for 15 minutes, or an hour or two, or a day or more... only to stop hurting and never really hurt again.
My opinion (though I can guarantee you nothing... it's merely an opinion) is that this sort of thing is part of a clearing-out and healing process. A process by which your body is being tuned up and re-integrated.
You might want to follow the usual Reiki-wisdom advice and - when you can hold something in your stomach without nausea - drink extra water each day for two or three weeks.
All the best...

Thanks :)
I went ahead and took some medicine for the aches a while ago, and now that it's kicking in it's helping some.
Water is goooood... it's about the only thing I feel like having, along with crackers, but it helps.
Thank you!

I agree with Tanemon...I believe your body is adjusting to the attunement as well as cleansing/healing itself. Make sure you get plenty of water, and eat things that give you energy. :hugz:

I agree with Tanemon and Aleannah. Getting sick is usually just part of healing. It's called purging.
a lot of aches and pains (particularly in my back, the base of my skull, and my eyes), and I can tell that I have a higher-than-normal temperature
These sound a little like early Kundalini symptoms, but really that's just a wild shot at an answer.
I would just say try to take care of yourself and pay attention to what your body needs. What kinds of food does your body tells you would be most nutritional right now?
You might also keep a journal of any mental/emotional changes you notice with the physical changes. It can give you a better idea what's going on, and when you realize it's connected to other changes and isn't just a physical illness, it might be easier to deal with. :)
I also know someone who got sick every time she received Reiki. Someone was able to solve that problem for her (I'm not quite sure how). It's the only case I've heard of such a thing happening, but it's a weird possibility I like to throw out just for the heck of it. It's probably more common with people who have other healing abilities (which reiki somehow interferes with).

It's quite common to have a "cleansing period" sometime in the first 30 days after your attument, of any level. Your body is adjusting to the new energy. It happens most often as illness and is related to whatever bad energy your body is holding onto. Some people get nothing, other get sick at every attunement. It all depends on you.
In my case, when I got my second attunement, I went from being pretty even-tempered (like now) to an absolute raving bitch for no reason. (I spent a lot of time screaming into my pillow and hitting things with a whiffle bat to get it all out.) It turns out to have been due to a lot of suppressed anger from my past. But it only lasted about a week, at which point I was fine.
It *will* pass, though you really feel like you're going to die for a while. :)

I was told by my Reiki II attunement teacher that the body will purge itself of excess impurities, both spiritual and physical. That would explain what you are feeling.
When I had my Reiki II attunement my stomach was also upset for a few days. So it seems to be quite common.

I've said it before and if I bother coming back I will probably say it again. Reiki energy can do damage to people, and the most common way for this to occur is during the attunements. Reiki teachers explain symptoms such as this as being a 'clearing process' and have developed pseudo explanations to brush it under the carpet. Usui never said that reiki energy could do no harm. Takata came up with this bit of dogma about the same time she realized that if she taught reiki in short weekend workshops she could make a lot of money. All that she had to do was do create a dogma that reiki energy has an innate intelligence and goes where it is neeeded and can never do anyone any harm. Usui wouldn't recognize reiki as it is now taught.
The common practice is for the teacher to send as much energy as s/he possibly can into the victim/student. The idea is to roto-rooter out the meridians, but in the process, there is damage done. It is in many ways like overloading an electrical circuit.
You hear about people feeling like hell after an attunement all the time . My explanation makes a lot more sense than the New Age crapola about detoxification. It is a lot more logical and fits the situation much more closely than the 'clearing process' hypothesis. The clearing process hypothesis is the result of toruturous logic and mental gymnastics. They took it as a given that Takata's dogma can't be questioned and arrived by twists and turns at the answer that the attunement is only hastening the body ridding itself of various toxins. They must have gotten the idea from reading the New Age pseudo science used to justify some of the health resorts. Have any of you heard of Occam's Razor? Essentially it means that all things being equal, the simplest explanation is the most likely. The clearing process explanation is neither simple or likely.

Nacken, given that recent research in Japan has demonstrated that both Dr. Hayashi (one of Usui's main successors) and Mrs. Takata (Hayashi's 'emissary to the West') put their own spins on the practice and understanding of Reiki, it's hard to argue that your interpretation is wrong. The situation seems to be that it is tempting for many of us to give our own interpretations of phenomena experienced in connection with Reiki, correct ones or incorrect.
But, in any case, we seem to be whipping a dead horse. AutumnFalling was the one direly in need of info - and hasn't posted anything on the MW forums since April 13, hence doesn't seem to be around.
I thought my "how are you feeling now?" question was worth asking, but went unanswered.
