View Full Version : A string of unnerving, death-centered dreams.

At the time I didn't make the connection, but I've been reading my dream journal and I realized that a good number of my dreams have involved death or killing. Here's the first one (with involves a good deal of Garth Nix, Tamora Pierce, and Inuyasha). NOTE: This is a very detailed dream, and I really can't leave much out without feeling like I'm skipping something important.
-

I was in my room, and then I went to the living room. The door was open, and through the screen door I saw a flock of dead crows (called Gore Crows in Sabriel) that stared at me with fiery red eyes.

One of them opened the screen door and turned into a kid around my neice's age, and then he lunged at me and started snapping and clawing at me like a dog. I tried to hit him back, but my hands went through him. My neice told me to "get the shard" (an element from Inuyasha). So I tried to run through his chest with my hand, but she said "No!" and took a plastic/glass shard from his shoulder, and he vanished. I threw the shard away.

I closed the door and locked it, then told my sister, "You get Nehima (a sword in Nix's Lirael). I'll get my sword." We went into the living room, and there were various swords under some sort of table. I took some out, gave one to my sister, and took out another. There was also a glass knife with a metal (maybe lead?) handle. I could literally feel my tension in the air at this point while I tied the scabbard to my belt. However, when I drew the sword I saw that it was Nehima, complete with the Charter marks on her blade. The one my SISTER was supposed to get.

I untied the scabbard and gave it and Nehima to my sister, and she gave me the Abhorsen's sword, and for some reason I also saw the other swords I'd taken out. One of them had a white scabbard, and the phrase "By Our Lord" was written near the cross-hilts. I have no idea why I noticed that, it's probably that tendency I have in dreams to notice details.

I finished tying the scabbard on and said to my sister, "We need a diamond of protection," (Garth Nix, possibly Tamora Pierce) and then we started looking for a good spot. We decided on the center because it had more room, but before we could cast it the door burst open, and somehow we all ended up near the couch as a HUGE crowd of Dead (self-explanatory; in Sabriel they're either reanimated corpses or shadow-like shapes) poured into the living room.

I'm really kind of embarrassed about this part, because it sounds like an action/horror flick. I yelled out, "Diamond of protection, fast!" and my sister took out some white thread. She stretched it out and told me to put the end on the arm of the couch, and when I did a small flare of white light signalled that the first part of the diamond was set.

Just as we finished the diamond of protection (which was indeed a diamond shape) the Dead started surrounding us. I raised my sword and got ready to fend them off.

And then I woke up twitching and clammy. I honestly thought I was still being attacked by the Dead, and I didn't want to move at all because I thought they'd find me. The very first waking thought I had was, "Oh my god, NO."

What does this mean? I know death is generally release of some sort, but in this case I was being attacked by a poetic version of zombies.

Mind, I've only posted this dream because it's long and detailed enough. Does this mean anything? One thing with me is that I dream about books and movies when I'm NOT thinking about them a lot, so that generally rules out "too much fantasy/sci-fi before bed." My feelings throughout the dream were tense to downright terrified, and I'm sure you would be had you been in my place.
