Um, I'm not sure which area I should be posting this in, so I thought I'd try this one. If I'm in the wrong one, I'm sorry...

I have a poor little puppy that's had a bit of a fall and the vet said that it's just pain. He hasn't broken anything but he is in a bit of pain. He suggested aspirin but I don't think that it's working...

Does anyone know of anything natural that I could try to help ease the pain?

If anyone can help me, please!!!

Poor puppy! Does it seems to be favouring a limb or anything like that? Did your vet tell you how many asprins? I know when we gave our dog asprin, it was by his weight. Myst, any suggestions?

Rescue Remedy. It is a Bach Flower remedy sold at health food stores. These are flower essences believed to be very powerful for healing, especially trauma. I have been using it for a few years and have also given it to animals, and it has worked for them also. It seems expensive, about $10 for a small bottle, but you only use 5 drops at a time.

Thank-you!

I'll try that one. Do you just mix the drops with water or milk or anything?

He is favouring/hurting more on his back left leg. But I've noticed this morning that he's kinda holding his front left leg up too. I think he may have bruised the left side and the bruise has gotten really bad now. The vet said only 1/4 of an aspirin a day. The pup is only 4.5kg but he didn't say anything about weight. That's a thought.

I just don't like to see him hurting!

They might have some ideas in the Green Room for you. Have you given him aspirin exactly as directed? If so, and you think it's still not working, please call your vet for help - he does know best.

Also keep in mind, even though that it's sad to see him in pain, animals aren't like us - they don't realize to take it easy if they're injured; if they don't feel the pain at all they could hurt themselves by being too rambunctious! So try to keep your home quiet and warm for him, and try not to let him run around too much. If he's got no bones broken he's probably not got that much pain and may just be pulling your leg :)

Well the vet knows his weight and the best amount of medication for his weight; if he's only 4.5kg 1/4 an aspirin seems reasonable to me. You don't want to risk giving him too much!

I had wondered if he might be whimpering a bit more for sympathy! :-))

We are keeping him comfortable and he's doing nothing but sleeping and hopefully healing!

Thank-you all for your advice! I'll check the green room too.

Thank-you again. I feel better now.

I was thinking along the lines of a gentle massage. I don't know if dogs like that. Our does, but he's a bit strange as far as dogs go.

No matter the degree of injury, a puppy will make a big deal out
of it to get mothers attention to its need. Instinct. "Look I'm
hurt! Care fro me mom!"
I would give the aspirin and ladle on lost of tlc

It can be either mixed with his water or placed directly on the tongue, if he'll let you. Just make sure he drinks all the water if you go that route. Good luck!

Make sure you give the aspirin exactly as the vet says because dogs don't shed medications as fast as humans do!

Animals are actually said to benifit from massage, Wildchild. Theres even a video some woman released on how to give your pet an effective massage. I'm sorry I can't help more with the puppy problem but i hope he's feeling better soon. I know what it's like to have a sick animal, my father hunts quite a bit so we have always owned 5+ dogs at any given time. and a cockatoo, several cats, fish, and an iguana, sheep, goats, pigeons............ good thing I don't even live on a farm!!!!

Thanks guys! I just checked back again.

We ended up having to take the puppy back to the vet and he did an Xray. Thankfully his back wasn't broken or fractured. It's just really sore and the vertebrae have compacted at one point.

So with lots of rest, he's going to be ok. YAY!!

I have been trying gentle massage too, Wildchild and he seems to like it. He doesn't yelp and falls asleep pretty quickly!!

I had a look in the shops here for that Bach Flower too, Freyja, and couldn't find it anywhere. But I'll be heading down to Brisbane shortly so hopefully something down there should have it. Although I've picked up some good sites from the Green Room so I'll have a look at those too.

But as for Rusty, he is looking and walking better. Which is good! Actually, no it's GREAT! :)) (Extremely happy Rowan!)

But thank-you all and sorry for not getting back sooner!

Well, I should probably get back to work seeing as that's where I am!! :)))

Thanks again everyone!

Hey! Thanks for the update on your puppy. I'm glad that he's ok. I guess puppies are like kids...they're so flexible.
