I found a piece of furniture in the hall today and when I arrived at my apartment I was trying to think of any spots that it would fit well. As I looked around my place I noticed there was a perfect spot so I went down the hall to get it.

It's a bookshelf that is 3 feet high and about 4 feet wide. I've put it in place, washed it down with a damp cloth and burned some white sage around it. I have it all decorated and books in place now (I have so many, the extra shelf space is really helping me stay organized).

So what do you think of used furniture? And does it hold energies from the previous owners that could affect my life?

I think it depends on the energy of the people who owned it. I used to find great furniture by the side of the road. I'd strip it, repaint it and sell it in my store. There's nothing that lifts your spirits like a great find :)
I believe in pieces that could hold negative energies from their owners...especially those who have passed away....but I'm not sure about anything other than that. I know with smaller items, I just smudge them. I don't see why it wouldn't work for something larger too....but I honestly don't know.

My husband and I stopped at a household/estate sale one day, we knew the owner had recently died and the family was getting ready to demolish the house so they were getting rid of everything.. years ago this mans disabled daughter was killed while sleeping when a car came through the side of the house.. I had heard about this on and off through the years in general conversation but that was about it.. as we were walking through the house I saw quite a bit that could be resold through my store and was making a mental list for offers, but the longer we walked through the house the worse I felt.. weighed down, depressed, and very heavy.. eventually I told my husband that I couldn't buy anything from this house and I needed to get out.. I honestly didn't want anything that had belonged to this family.. now there are times when I feel sad and even guilty that my store profits sometimes by the misfortune of others and I make sure that I give thanks to those who owned whatever comes to me and ask their blessing in the selling of it but this was a different experience altogether.. afterward I found out that this man had spent his entire life trying to keep the invalid daughter alive I guess she had alot of problems.. that it was his only child.. and that he had gone to the back garage and shot himself (this was many years after her death).. the place has been sold and is to be torn down and a store put there.. I think that might be best.. so yes I do believe that furniture and "stuff" can hold all sorts of feelings and energy both negative and postive.. I have decided to do a room by room smudging of my entire house (the house and grounds itself have been blessed) as we bring in pieces from all over that are previously owned by one or many.. as I haven't found anyplace local that sells the smudging wicks I will be using rolled sage from the herb isle of my local natures market.. I already did a salt and energy cleansing on that..
don't know if this helps.. just wanted to add my two cents worth.
blessed be

My ex-bf and I used to browse antique stores, I can tell you that I have run into pieces of furniture that I couldn't go near because of the strong energy it had, and there have been rooms that I couldn't enter because of it! I am trying to work with my empath energies now and so go to antique stores just to learn about how to listen to these energies now. Most stuff I don't really feel anything, they are kind of neutral or just faint energies. I think that books hold ALOT of energy, chairs also. A few times I have found an item to have frightening energies, strong negative overwhelming energies, and I would become sick to my stomach if I tried to walk to close to them, this doesn't happen much. Places that have alot of war related items I have to completely avoid, they also make me sick. These things are the few, not the normal. If you see people tending to walk way around something, I would wonder about it's energies!

all my furniture is used. i supposed it does hold some of the previous owner's energy, but like all things- it's in the interpretation. i choose to find the positive in the mood, look at the object in it's best light and make it fit in my space.

if nothing else, refinish it.
