Ok just before we start on this one I want to make clear that the sequence of the last few runes we have been discussing in the 2nd Aett is
Isa ~ 11
Yera ~ 12
Eiwaz ~ 13
Pertho ~ 14
We have been discussing Pertho so lest just jump back one and cover Eiwaz then we can move onto the last 10 in order..
Eiwaz
Is Odins rune as it is his Yew tree.
Eiwaz represents, Yggdrasil THE tree of all trees!m Yggdrasil is the center of the universe. All other realms of existance are built upon it branches and roots. It is the spine of the universe and contains the mystery of life and death.
So I think of Eiwaz is all of the above and a great strong backbone to life and as a bow is made of yew and can be a weapon this bow is a protectant.
Its is a rune that speaks of knowledge in what is really true and the power to stand-up for oneself, to have courage, drive, ambition and determination to push ahead no matter what the costs.
In magick it can be used for visions and travel to other realms and for power spells.

Eoh, Iwarz, Eiwaz... in swedish Idegrans runan, idegran is a type of spruce...
Stands for: Yggdrasil, Tree of life, patience with everything that is growing. This is the rune of plants and trees.
This rune often tells you to be patient with whatever it is that is growing and taking some time in your life. It might be something at work, or a more spiritual growth. This rune also speak of giving
without asking anything in return, like a tree offering its fruits.
Wear this rune when you wish to strengthen your spiritual growth and your patience.
Tarot association: the universe
And thats about all I had to say about this rune :)

Eihwaz (I-wahz)- yew (Yggdrasil), bow; correspondences: Element: all; color- dark green, dark blue; polarity- masculine; Deities- Odin, Ullr, Skadi
In readings, I generally take Eihwaz to represent a hunter's bow. This represents the means to 'hunt down' what you need, & usually indicates no need to worry about financial matters ('you may not know where the next penny is coming from, but you have the skills, knowledge, etc to bring it in'). Eihwaz also represents the backbone... I take this to mean strength of will, having the willpower to go & get what you need. Eihwaz can also indicate the 'upright person', a person of honesty & integrity.
Magically, Eihwaz embodies Yggdrasil (literally, Ygg's [a kenning for Odin] Steed; that is, a gallows). It can be used shamanically to traverse the Nine Worlds. It might arguably be the most powerful of all the Runes. Some also associate it as the 'death Rune'; I associate it as the Rune of shamanic transformation ('rebirth' through 'shamanic death', Odin hanging on the Tree for nine nights...)

i kind of agree with rick's assessment in that it is perhaps the most powerful rune, because so many runic powers relate to Eihwaz (even though Hagalaz contains all the runes). i have so many favorites but its my favoritest
the lower half has strong ties with Laguz (yew=poison which relates to L) and lower worlds, Hel, stillness and ice, deep meditation, night and moon, and the receptive or calling-to-oneself aspect often associated with crone powers. the upper half has strong ties to both manifestation and spiritual energies, both Fehu and Sowilo as well as Dagaz, intensity and high vibration, Asgard, astralling, sun and day, and active or sending-forth aspects often associated with magik and male deity activity.
personally, it functions as a detailed polar duality in which i can tie all aspects of myself together. it is very much a death rune, but in a sense that it is the goal of gebo and nauthiz--to use sacrifice to come to a death and rebirth that transmutes one beyond that cycle to a path of spiritual immortality. in a way, it could be seen as a rune carrying powers similar to Christ's. (not that im a big Xian fan or anything)
i use it often for journeying and for relating different runes together. i feel it has a special relationship with the rune sowilo in my personal understanding of it. it wields a power over death that should never be thought of or used lightly; ive found that bones inscribed with eihwaz become very. . . present and powerful
its connotations thus indicate "supremacy" or triumph in any matters--not in the sense of giving you dominance over others, but in giving you the individual resources you need, from materially supporting (food, money, shelter) to spiritual sustainment of gathering strength from allies and always having the resources to do what you need to do. it is a demanding rune in the sense that responsibilities definitely come with its more powerful aspects' use, but i feel most runes are like that :) it gives freely, too, of its life to those who need it
the relationship to the yew tree is multifold, but some of the associations i have are vast potential to heal as well as hurt, watchfulness and strength through all situations, sheer will to survive and indominable or undefeatable lifeforce, and possible connection to damn near anything.
hope that was interesting

Eihwaz corresponds to the festival of Yule (midwinter) in the pagan wheel of the year along with Isa and Jera. Isa represents the frost giants, Jera is the turning point of the year and Eihwaz represents Yggdrasil, the evergreen which symbolizes life throughout the winter. The idea of a Christmas tree is a remnant of this belief. It symbolized the life force in winter promising rebirth, growth suspended but not dead. The hailing of the returning Sun can be symbolized in a Yule ritual including Isa, Jera and Eihwaz.
