Empathy is agift I have had sense I was a child. It gives me the power to be chamelon like, do you understand? I can "feel" peoples feelings, so I know what they are like, in a sense I know them, then ( not intentionaly) I become some one they can relate to.

Any I was wondering if there are any Empaths here, becuase I would love to discuss this.....though I have had this gift all my life, there is still much i dont understand about it, I was hoping some one here could enlighten me.

Thats interesting...Im more of a cold reader empath...in the respect of I can se very tiny details in people's body language or appearance and in some ways feel what they are going through. I am by hart a sensitive person and depending upon who I am around feel depressive or happy. it is dificult sometimes because in a way empathy makes us more vulnerable to other people's feelings....especially if they are directed at us. I know in many times I have become paranoid in soem ways lol.

Im not sure what "kind" of Empath I am. Going out in public is kinda tough, especially high energy places (Dances or parties especially) or alone.

Its kinda like a firehose that no one holds onto, it kicks all over the place and I get a whole range of feelings from people that I dont even know. Ive found the very rare person that reacts like water thrown into acid. Its this blinding rush of all that person's thoughts, emotions, and feelings comming at you at once. It feels kinda like getting blindsided with a sledgehammer.

I sometimes pick up memories from people that manifest as dreams, which can get REALLY confusing at times (Its wierd to be a guy and have a dream about getting fitted for a training bra)

It comes in very handy when Im dealing with people though, its hard for people to hide emotionally disturbing things from me. But at the same time, it makes going out in public somewhat rough.

We live in a vast interconnected network of mutual influence. Empaths sense this directly, while most people react to it subconsciously. The attitudes we hold about people, influence their behavior, and their attitudes about us, influence our own.

Expect people to be difficult, and you make it hard for them not to be difficult. See the finer qualities that a person has, and those will come to the surface.

There's a thread here called, The Empathic Bunker. You really need to read that whole thing...

I can comleyely see how that works, it makes alot of sense to me.

As far as crowded places go. If I go to a dance or a party. I become full of energy! I can go and go for ever it seems. Al the high tension energy coming of people fuels me.

One on ones are better, because then I only get feelings from that one person. If its in acrowd it all bleeds into one, and i get it as a whole.

There are times that if a become relaxed and concibtrate one one person in general......there is a fleeting second when I am inside that person.....I can smell what they smell, and feel what they feel, touch and emotionaly..... It only lasts for a few seconds....Its a talent I would like to mature so that I could do it at will, but so far it only happenes three times in my life....

Maybe I am stopped from doing it, because it is a violation of their privacy, perhapes their guardians block me?

Both my mother and I are empathic, but didn't even know there was a name for it until recently. We just took it as a genetic oddity amongst ourselves.
It can be a terribly frustrating thing, I find. It let's you know what someone is really thinking around, behind, and in back of what they are saying. And it's not always nice!

My husband brushes it off, saying, "You're just overly-sensitive where people are concerned."

I was discussing this topic with a friend who sent me an email with some information on the subject...

"It's like always knowing a secret, but never having proof."

"Empaths make up between 2% and 6% of the population, and only a fraction of those know what they are. They fall into a group of "highly sensitive" people, who make up roughly 15% of the population. These are supposedly 10 times more likely than the general population to experience repeated periods of clinical depression." (We had wondered if this was experienced because of all the negative emotions that are so easily picked up?)

About blocking your empathic intuition..."To only "allow in" the emotions you want is to deny yourself vital information. It would be like having a conversation with someone, and closing your eyes and covering your ears whenever they say something unpleasant or emote something you don't want to know." (I thought this was very true.)

"The only proof an empath can offer is our observations of a person, and very often what we observe is what the people around us are most loathe to admit to." (Also, very true. My husband simply won't listen to me when I try to tell him that person isn't telling you the truth, this person doesn't really like us, he's just pretending to, etc. It gets very frustrating.)

I will be interested to see more info and opinions on this subject.

Maybe I am stopped from doing it, because it is a violation of their privacy, perhaps their guardians block me?The vibes people put out can't be blocked. Everybody is broadcasting all the time, and one way or another we are all responding to those broadcasts. Picking the stuff up consciously has to do with your antenae. Most people have their antenaes retracted, and only pick stuff up subconsciously. Empaths have their antenaes extended, and those with complaints, haven't learned how to tune them specificly.

When you aren't familiar with the process, then you can become disoriented by not knowing what is coming from you, and what is coming from other people. And considering the amount of negativity out there, it is easy to become depressed. However, when you understand the process, then you can view the incoming information objectively, and not take some of the stuff to heart, since you will know it's not originating within yourself.
