My hubby and I would like to go away for a weekend. (well, we would really love to go to the Carribbean for a week, but hey, can't do that with very little money!:)) We were thinking one, maybe two nights, somewhere close to home. We live in NJ.
Do any of you have any cool places to visit that might be in these areas?
Thanks
Chris

I used to live in CT.
You could visit Mystic Sea port and aquarium. Mystic Seaport is an old fashioned maritime town. Nice, cute shops, and museums and such. Be prepared, it costs a pretty penny, and reservations need to be made well in advance.
There's also Foxwoods Casino, or Mohegan Sun, both in the northern half of CT.
If you want to venture up through north western CT, right over the border, in Mass, there's old Sturbridge village, a recreated colonial town.
Other than that, in the Winter Time, there's really not much in the way of touristy stuff in CT. Alot of parks, campgrounds, good hiking grounds. A couple of museums in the Hartford/New Haven area....the coastline...that kind of stuff. But they are best done during the spring and summer.
But..it's a beautiful state, just for sight seeing. I hope you enjoy your little vacation :)

Thanks Danus! great minds thing alike- we had talked about Foxwoods and Mystic. We took our son to Mystic when he was 5 months old. :) We rented a beautiful cabin for two nights and had a wonderful, relaxing time. The aquarium was great fun, Scott loved watching the sharks too.
We aren't sure about Foxwoods- my hubby is scared to gamble and with good reason IMO. He has an addictive personality, tends to be a bit of a spender and I can just foresee a lot of trouble there hee hee!
I have been to Sturbridge whe I was a kid- but I think that was a bit far from here.
Thanks again for the suggestion.

What kinds of things are you looking for? Things that are family geared? Things that are more for adults?

ADULTS!!!!!!
*ahem*
Deep breath... :D
This will be a vacation without the little ones. Just the two of us. Any ideas? I'd love to hear any suggestions-
PA is also a very good area, I just don't know what to do specifically. Well, I do but not for the whole trip. ;)

Do you guys like to fish? My son lives in Pulaski, which is upstate NY. He runs the Big A Sports Shop for his grandma and Aaron can tell you everything you need to know. It is beautiful country there, on the St. Lawrence River, and fishing for salmon is fun and challenging. You'll definitely need hip waders, you have to get in the water to fish.

You could go to the Poconos. my friends just went last weekend.
Or, you could head up to Woodstock! There are tons of B&B's there and lots of great shops and restaurants, and well, it's WOODSTOCK! I used to go up all the time, but I haven't been back in about a year.
Or you could go to the Bear Mtn. Inn which is about 20 minutes from me (if that?). No shops, but the Inn, in my opinion, is a very nice spot. Lot's of trails and such to walk around. Cold Spring, a cute artsy town, is about 1/2 hour north of there and I'm just a hop skip and a jump from there too. :D

Freyja~ nope, I don't fish and hubby's idea of fishing is sticking a pole in the water with one hand and a beer in the other. LOL But my dad goes to Pulaski several times a year and has done so since I was proabably 10. In fact, I was up there once in Feb (I think I was 12) and the snow drifts were waaaaay taller than I was. And if that sport shop is a big one, I bet any amount of money my dad has been in there. Small world, eh? :)
LdyS~You are not too far from Bear Mt? We used to go hiking and see the rescued animals there. I would also go and watch my friends ice skate (since I don't). That lodge is beautiful and I have heard they have (had?) a great brunch there.
Woodstock might be cool too. I have never been to a B&B and it might be neat to walk around there.
Thanks for ideas ladies!
Chris
