Alright, I recently retired my Witches Tarot deck and bought The Celtic Tarot deck. It is a beautiful deck but it has crappy descriptions. I the book for each card(excluding the Major Arcana) it has ONE WORD. For instance Three of Cups: Victory. Or whatever it says i cant remember. but thats all, just one word!!! Kind of bugs me. Alot. But that's ok. Anyways back to the main subject.. I got an idea from I can't remember whom, when i was posting about decorating my room Paganly. They told me to frame a few tarot cards and hang them around the room for a pagan vibe. I thought that was a cool idea, and I just might do that. I've been looking through my old deck and seeing which ones i'd like to frame. So that's fine However, Now i'm stuck with what to do with my old deck! I might take out 4 or 5 to frame, and then what? What do i do with my old deck? Should i put it in my "memory box" or what? I dont want to burn them becuase well thats just bad. BUt what should i do?

Hi,

are you sure you want to retire them. Why not keep them around and still use them once in a while. If you want to frame pictures of Tarot Cards, get color coppies..this way you can enlarge them so you can see them from a distance.

Also, I put my decks in pretty bags and put the bags in baskets to decorate. This way If I feel like it, I can dig out an older deck and get a fresh view of it.

The other option is to trade the deck. I have done that and I love it. I just cleanse the new deck before I use it.

I was actually going to frame the cards themselves, not copies. I think i'll just frame the ones i wish, and put the others safely in their box, inside the box of memories i keep near my heart.

I'm with Cjtarot.
I use several of my decks all at once - each one works best for different types of readings or ideas. For example, If I'm reading for someone else, the Thoth deck isn't the one I'll use.

Each of my deck's has a different personality that's suitable to different things - I have even been known to use two decks in one reading.

There's no reason to give up one deck because you have a new one.
*shrug* I'd keep it in such a way that if you ever do want to use the old one you can.

I dont retire any of my decks when I get a new one, each one has a special and specific use, so I use them all once in awhile, because I read for alot of people

but if you dont want to use them then you may want to do what I have done with one of mine that I seldom use, I put them face down in a small bowl and when my guests come over or leave they like to pick one and I tell them their "words of wisdom" for the day they seem to like it!! _witchball

You could do either one, I have plans to buy a new deck any day now, but I'm still attached to the old one. I think I'll hold on to it as sort of a back up deck in case something happens to my newer one or if I just feel like using it. I never thought about hanging the old cards but thats a good ideal, it'd look nice.

Hey, now thats a good idea. Thanks Astara:toofless:

I'd say just hold on to the old decks, you never know when you might have a itch to dig up an old deck for a reading. And as you get more experience reading, you can look back at your old decks with a new angle, seeing and feeling things you didnt before from it.

Framing cards is a cool idea, too. Or, if your feeling ambitous, you can take, say, a coffee table, lay down cards on top, and place a peice of glass that covers the table, with the cards facing up. So you'll have a Tarot table of sorts. Know what I mean? I hope so. Its what I'm working on right now with a Rider deck.

Anyways, good luck with whatever you do:hahugh:

I've worn a couple of decks out to the point that the cards are mushy and hard to shuffle. When they get to that point, I use them in my spell work. If I want to lose weight, I tape the Magician on the door of the fridge. If I want someone to stop bothering me, I write their name on the card that reminds me the most of them and then put it in my freezer. If I want someone to call me, I do the same and then put that card under the phone instead of freezing it. If I'm feeling vulnerable, I carry the Strength card around with me for a while.
