I've been here before, haven't I?
I really tried to start this paper when it was assigned. I even made weekly appointments with a tutor to make sure I was making progress. But a week ago I realized that I just couldn't write the paper on my original topic.
This is a paper for Critical Thinking class in which I have to make a decision and justify it logically based on the evidence. I started out with the topic of choosing a college, but then at the last minute I realized that what I really need to do is choose a major.
I don't feel like I have enough information now, but I do have some, and I just have to go with what I have.
I think my answer is going to be Sociology, because I have been interested in the subject for a long time, I have read a lot about it independently, and I am closer to having all the requirements for entering that program than any of the others. I also talked to two Sociology professors the other day, and the things that I ended up saying made it clear to me that I am deeply interested in the subject.
On the downside, I don't really understand what I could do with a degree. I have seen the list of careers, but what I haven't looked into enough is their availability, and what other coursework I would need to take to qualify. When I showed it to my counselor she said that most of them would require additional coursework.
The other majors I am considering are Anthropology, Geography, and Environmental Resources Engineering. I recently developed an interest in Geography because of a Physical Geography class I am taking. It made me really interested in science for the first time, and I have always been somewhat ashamed not to be more interested in that subject.
Environmental Resounces Engineering relates to my recently developed interest in Geography, because I have been learning about how we need to learn to manage our resources better, and I have always been good in mathmatics and liked problem solving. It is also supposed to have a lot of careers on the other end if you obtain an advanced degree (at least according to the art student who gave me a ride home today).
However, it is a very intense program, and there are nine lower division classes I would have to take before I could even qualify for it. I can easily see myself ending up with ten years in college if I go that route! :hairraise It's been three already at this so-called "two year" college.
It will probably mean another semester if I don't turn in this paper and fail this class, and I am in my last minute panic/hyperfocus stage. Writing this out has helped my though, and any advice would be appreciated (provided anyone has read this far!)
