Didn't think this fit really well into any of the other forums..it's not really magickal, and yet, some find it debateable whether or not it's scientific.

So..anyway...Have any of you ever been hypnotized? I've heard alot of people had great results with it for quitting smoking, others, for losing weight.

I think i'd like to try hypnosis for a phobia of mine, and I was wondering what to expect.

Would you reccomend going to a regular psychiatrist (i know some of them do hypnosis), or seeking a more metaphysical doctor?

I used hyposis for labor management when I was pg with my first child. I would swear by it! I had a good friend who was a certified hynotherapist and she did a lot of practice on me as she went for her certification. I was lucky and I went pretty deep when she put me under. I felt wonderful when she brought me back up too.

I would ask around your area to see if there is a hypnotherapist people feel comfortable with. You ahve to trust the person who is going to put you under IMHO. I remember my friend saying that some people react great to smoking and phobia suggestions and others do not. I imagine if you expect it to work, it will work.

The only other thing I would recommend is to see if the hypnotherapist will make a tape for you or teach you how to do self hypnoisis at home. The more you go under, the deeper you will go. When I was pg with my second, I tried to do the hypnosis on myself, and I had a harder time going deep. And I know the suggestions/pain management did not work as well as a result.

Hope this helps. If you have any other questions, feel free to pm me. :D
