Hi!
My friend and I (online friend, that is) have been debating about whether we should become practice Wicca. We know some basic information and I know you have to keep learning and practicing Wicca, however, there seems to be one thing holding us back. I'm not sure if it's being afraid of consequences (good and bad), what other people might think, how our friends and families will respond to us being a part of it (them not knowing about it and naturally being afraid of what they don't know) or whatever it may be, it's keeping our deciscion up in the air. My friend is Christian, but doesn't go to church often. I, myself, don't really have a particular religon. I've been told it's Baptist, but my family as well doesn't attend chruch services often at all. We know that Wicca is about celebrating nature under the influence of the god/dess but we don't know the important details and all that we need to know to choose the right path. We know that we should only choose Wicca if it IS indeed right for us. Somehow, I almost don't find us being the type. (There really isn't a 'type' of Wiccan, but..) We're crazy and funny teenage girls who live a zillion miles apart. In the long run, we were asking for any kind of advice or information that would really influence us to make a choice. Thank you for listening and we hope you reply!

Well Wiccan isn't something you become over night anyway. You can continue to study and learn about it and some day if it feels right dedicate yourself to it.

My only advice to educate yourselves, and be true to yourselves. Do all of the studying you can (remember, there are infinate paths to choose to tread upon), and once you feel truly content with one, don't let other's opinions sway you in any direction other than the one you want to go.

Your spirituality is exactly that: YOURS.

There's nothing that says you have to make a commitment right now. A good idea would be to continue learning about Wiccan and maybe other pagan paths too. If you decide that it's not right for you, then you still have this knowledge - which is not a bad thing. If, at any point, you decide to go for it, then you have a good base to start from.

There's a stuck thread at the top of this forum that lists some pretty good resources as well, there's a list in the book forum of books others here recomend.

Also, anytime you want, you can ask here too. We have such a wide range of beliefs here - Wiccans and nonWiccans alike.

I agree with most of whats been stated. Like Myst said, it isn't something you become overnight. There is no one decision that makes you a Wiccan, imo. It takes alot of things, and knowledge of the religion imo is the most important. So, if you need some questions answered .. ask, silly! ;)

On another note, you can study all you want and decide that its for you, but if you don't practice it for awhile, you won't really know. If you find out the knowledge you feel is necessary to be Wiccan, by all means dedicate. But, as always, imo the knowledge of what it feels like to actually put the studying to use is essential.
